Better now. Yeah Yeah okay, that's good to hear. Okay, so let me. Right, not the one. Hold on second. So from today, what we're doing is going to go we're going to go over. So we're going to practice what we learned the week before and then we're also going to go over a new topic. Okay, so the new topic is looking at active and passive voice. All right, so this is the the recap that I would like you to have a go at. This is from the week before. Remember when we did adjectives and adverbs? Yeah, Yeah. So what I would like you to do is identify the adjectives and the adverbs in each sentence. Okay? So you can you can circle them or you can write them out. And just say it out alone. Yeah. So the adjective is quick. And the adverb is grefully yes, absolutely good for what about. The second and for the second one, the adjective is tired, the adverb is kindly. What we see here, we've actually even got another adjective. You see how it's noisy classroom. So that can be an adjective as well. Okay. I could. What about the third one? The third one. I think basically is a verb. And the adjective is long. Yeah we've also got raged. Rage is do we know what rage or rage stands for? Not really. Okay. So rage is another word for angry. Okay? So let's write that down if we're not sure. So the storm brefiercely, it means like the storm was angry, it was violent almost. What? But yes, you're right about fiercely and long. Is it for the the fourth one? Yes, the Yeah, the fourth one. I think the adjective is Young and the adverb is extremely excellent. Yeah, well done. Good. Okay. We can argue that fast can also be c. Okay. Now for an extension. Brown, an what I would like for you to do is to write one sentence using at least one adjective and one advert. But you can write this in your in your book and then you can say it out loud, and then I'll write it on the screen. Okay? Okay. I say, Yeah, I run quickly through the muddy pitch. So I Ron. Quickly. Hmm. Excellent. That's a very good sentence. So you've got your adverb describing how quickly how fast you're running and then the pitch being muddy. Excellent or done good. Okay, Bob, let's move along. So on to actually talking about what we're looking at today. So what does it mean when we say voice? A voice is so what we need to know is that every sentence can be written in two ways. Okay? It can be written in an active voice or a passive voice, but they both the sentences will mean the same thing. One will just be kind of in the present form and then one is in the sort of passive, kind of like past form, but it's something that is describing what has already been done. Okay. Does that make sense? Yeah so the example that we have for active is the cat chased the mouse. So we see that the go on, but active is present Sant and passive is past, almost very close because the thing is chaste is past tense. Isn't it so similar to past and present? Let's think of another way to describe active and passive voice. Okay, think of it, but like this so active and passive voice, they usually are sentences that will describe the relationship between the subject and the verb in a sentence, okay? So for example, the cat is a subject, chaste is the verb, and mouse is the object, okay? So it's I'll write it that active. Is usually subject. Then it is verb, then it is object. Okay, now in the active voice, the subject performs the action, okay? Just like we have in our example, the cat is chasing the maps. So the cat is being the subject is performing the action, okay? The subject performs the action and that will be described as a verb, okay? But in the passive voice is a little bit different, okay? The passive voice, the subject is acted on. So the subject for these active voice is where the subject performs the action. Passive is where the action is happening to the subject. Okay, the passive voice is kind of used more so you're right in a past tense. Okay, it's to be basically alright, right? So I'll write it down for passive as well. So passive, let's go through the sentence example as well. So passive you see the mouse is the object was being chased, which is the verb by the cap, which is the subject. Does that make sense? Yeah. Yeah. So we've got object, the b subject. And also we've got the subject is being. Acted on. So again, passive is such the the so this is how we kind of write it. But basically what happens in the passive is that the object. Becomes. The subject. Okay, so do you see how in the active voice the mouse was the object, right? But in the passive voice the mouse becomes the subject, okay? So that's why I've written object verb subject and then subject verb object. Okay, does that make sense? Yeah Yeah that we also need to make sure that we realize when we write with passive voice, it's usually kind of more formal, okay? It's a more formal way of speaking or for writing as well. Okay? Active can be a bit more kind of clear, direct, concise, but maybe a little bit informal. Whereas passive passive is a lot more formal when the the doer of the action is known, unknown and it's basically emphasized or it's exaggerated by the action in itself. Okay, so we can say another example. The active is the teacher collected the books, and the passive would be the books were collected by the teacher. So as I've written down here, the focus changes from the doer to the receiver of the action. Okay? So they make the object the subject for passive voice. Okay, could we write down what active and passive means? And then could we write down the examples for words, please? Thank you. Yeah have you Roen everything down? Okay, let's move on. So again, just to recap over everything before we move on to some practice, in the active voice, the subject will always perform the action. Okay? So the chef cooked the meal, the boy kicked the ball, the teacher marked the the books or the homework even. Okay, so can we think of an example and you can say it out loud. I walked past the shopping center. Yeah, I walked. Excellent. Yes, good, because you in this case, are I the subject walked is the verb, and then past the shopping center, the shopping center is the object. Can we pick two? Sorry, brother, can we pick two examples and just write them down, please, for active voices? I've also just written here that active voice is always short and direct sentences. Okay, I've done it. Yeah you've done it. Not good. Okay, so moving on again. What is the passive voice? So just to recap in the passive voice, the object of the action becomes the subject. So it's object plus to be and then by the subject. So the meal was cooked. The meal was cooked by the chef, the ball was kicked by the boy, the books were marked by the teacher. Okay, what we I would like you to brighten this once. Second, let me just write it down. So when we do like a sentence structure, this is our sentence structure that we're trying to follow for passithis. It's. The subject which was previously the object. Plus the verb, plus. By the and then we end with the object, which was previously the subject. Does that make sense? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So can we can we have write that sentence structure out? And then again, can we pick two examples to make a note of, please? I'm also going to write what past because this is something that comes up, so it's called past participle, okay? So I'm just going to write the definition of what that means down on just because it comes up in grammar a lot, okay? So it's a verb or. That. Yes. So for example, learn. There comes land. It's literally just changing the word from present to past. That's the easiest way of thinking about it. Okay. And then same thing with eat becomes eaten. So let's make a note of that definition as well, just so you've got it for the next time it comes up. We finished writing, no, no, rather like few words. Okay, okay, no words. Okay okay. Yeah. So let's have a look at these examples and me. Okay, so the active is the police. So what is the police in the active sentence? Are the police on an object? So the police will be the subject. Okay, yes, sometimes Yeah and then quote would be. The object, what is the verb? So hatch is a verb, right? To catch something I catch. Tennis balls, for example, okay, but the past tense of catch is caught. Okay, so I caught a bird, I caught the Frisbee. So the final one is the thief, so the thief will be the object. Okay. Does that make sense? So my little trick to go from active to passive is to swap. The subject. And object. Okay. So to go from active to passive, swap the subject and the object. Okay? And the reason why that is we can see that in the example in passive, the beef which was previously the object which has now become the subject was court being the verb by the to make it passive and formal. Police. So the police which was previously the subject which has now become the object, does that make sense? Yeah. Yeah. So let's have a go to the active. What in this sentence, what is the subject? In this center's artist is the subject excellent. What is the verb? The verb is paint yeand then finally, what is the object? Picture, well protected picture. Yeah, excellent. Good. So what we always want to remember is for something to be the subject, it is it is the one. Doing the action, okay. And the object. Is the one. Having the action done to it. Oh, give me 1s. Okay, so just to make a note as well, Brian, just to mention what know what the object is and what the definition of subject is, okay, because it's important and it's quite easy to get them mixed up, okay? So let's write the definition for subject and for object, please. Okay, I don't. Thanks. Excellent. Good. Right, let's move on. So what I would like us to do is to have a go at writing these sentences in the passive form. Okay? So what we will do is we'll do the first one together and then the next poi'd like you to have a go. Okay? So the first sentence is the teacher, which is the subject marked, which is the verb, the tests, which is the object. Okay? Yeah. So to turn. Active voice into passive voice, what do we need to do to this sentence? So you have to change it, but the other way around that you have to add buy or other work. Yeah. So make sure it's not just by but it's by the okay. That's what needs to go in by the okay. Can I just say it like say danyeah you can and then I'll write it down. The village was destroyed by the storm. Excellent. Yeah, the last one. The test was moked by the teacher. So good. And what about the third one? On the car was prepared by the machine. Prepared paired by the that where says mechanic okay. Oh Yeah. Do we know what mechanic is? Not really. Okay, that's okay. So a mechanic is the name of the person you see. We give it a label or a title, but someone. Who fixes cause? Okay, like an engineer. Like an engineer. Yeah, good. But Yeah like an engineer. An engineer will create a car, but a mechanic fixes cause ars usually with problems. Okay? So let's say you had an issue with a tire or you had an issue with the engine. They fixed that. Whereas engineers usually create things. Okay? So an engineer might have created or produced the car, but it will be fixed by a mechanic. Excellent. Could we write down mechanic definition as well, please, just so that that's a new word that we've learned today? Hi. Yeah. Done. Yeah, you've done it. Okay, excellent. Good. Let's move on. Okay, so for this one, I would like us to have a go at changing the voice to active voice. Okay, so again, we will have a look through the sentence together and then we will have a go at writing out. So the cake which was the subject was baked, which is the verb by Sarah, which is the object. Okay? So we know that these two have been swapped, right? Because they're written in passive voice. So how can we turn this back into active. So you have to turn cake, Sarah. Bake the cake. Oh sorry that so Sarah. Baked the cake. Excellent. So now Sarah becomes the subject and the cake becomes the object. Excellent. What about the second one? The window was broken by the ball. The book break the. Window. Broke the window. So just to be careful, break. Is present and broke. Or broken is Constance. Okay, so in a second we'll I'll ask you to make a note of that as well. Just so this is a type of irregular but just because it does not change like every other one so like you know how we have you know walk is walked you just add an ed for regular verbs, but this is an irregular verb because we change the structure of the actual word. It goes from break to Broor broken. Okay, good. What about the third sentence? The homework was finished by the students. The student finished the homework accent. The students. Finished. Good. So. Could we please write down what the present tense of break is and what the past tense of break is? And we can also write that example down just so you have an example using the word. Okay, written that down. Yeah. So let's have a go. Now I would like you to do what I'd like you to do, is to write three sentences in active voice and then rewrite them in passive voice. And so again, just to show you for an example, the active voice is the gardener planted the flowers. So we've got the gardener being, Oh, sorry, change my hand en, so the gardener being the subject, planted meaning the verb, and flowers being the object, and then being swapped over for the passive voice and adding by the okay, so plant, well, actually it's two. Plant becomes planted, okay. Eat, let's say, becomes ate or eaten. So depending on if you're talking about singular or plural, and then let's say sing becomes sang. I'm just giving some examples, by the way, for verbs. Okay? Walk becomes walked or cral becomes cruled. Okay. So they're just some examples. Have a go and try and use some different verbs that we haven't seen in the examples today, okay, just to try and give ourselves a little bit of challenge. So I'll write that down. Try to use new verbs. Okay, so three sentences, an active voice and then rewrite them in passive voice. And for this one, could you write down your answers please? Okay, just so we can practice a little bit of the sentence writing. Let's let's hear your sentences, but I'll write them. I'm just going to minimize this so I can write your sentences out. Okay, let's hear the the first one. Yeah. Let's have a list. Let's have here for your five sentence in active and then passive. I saw I saw you copy the sentence down for the last thing. Oh, I see. No, no, it's this this is the bit I'd like you to have a go at, is to write your own three sentences and active voice and then rewrite them in passive voice. Okay. Okay. Sorry, just wondering. Okay, Yeah, that's fine. Let's. Hear your first sentence inactive and then in passive. Okay the first sentence is I drew a soft portrait I so I drew a Yeah include so okay. And impassive is the self ported was drawn by me. Excellent. Yes, good, good sentences. What about the second one? The second one is. The second one is I kick the move. An impassive is the bull was kicked by me. Yes, good. Is. Is. Wait, I don't think it it make sense if the I say I swim in the pool passive tenthe pool. Not really. It's just because swimming isn't really something that can be done to you. So you can say I swam in the pool is a correct active sentence, but the pool was, I guess you can say the the pool was swam in by me. To make it passive and then the actor would be, I swam in the pool. Yeah. Yeah Yeah, that works. But Yeah this is the sentence we would write for if we were talking about as if the the pool was swam in because you have to go inside the swimming pool to swim by me. As a as a bonus, Brian, can we try and think of two sentences that are not that are not in first tense? So you can write about a friend, you can write about the teacher, you can write about a basketball player, you can write about a cook, you can write about a nurse, a doctor, anything, really. But let's try and write two more sentences, not using first tenso, not I or me. Okay? So like third person, yes Yeah third person and both active and person yes, active and. Okay. Can we hear it? Whatever you've got, if you've only written one sentence and that's fine, we'll just check that one sentence. Okay. I right y. 嗯,so. For the first one I write, the chef cooked the meal, and the, and the passive tent is the meal was cooked by the chef. Was cooked by the chef yet. And the second one I write is the bus, will the bus driver drive the bus? So the bus driver drove in past ten, the bus drove the bus, and the bus will drove by the bus driver. So the bus, the bus was driven. By the bus driver. So this is just quickly one example of past tense drive is drove and driven. So when we're talking about someone doing the driving, we say driven or because the bus was drove would not make sense. So it's driven by when we're talking about someone driving it. But then drove is past tense of drive. Okay, okay, I'll just write that down. So drive is present. And drove is passed. Do we think, Brian, for next week? Do you do you want to practice a little bit more on present and past verbs and how to make present verbs become past verbs? Yeah. Should we do that? Okay. I'll abide those doesn't sorry to have a lesson next week. I don't think if I can have a lesson next week. Okay. You don't think you can have one. Okay. Let the allost my room. Sure, that's absolutely fine. If not, then I'll I'll know. And then I'll just set the homework and maybe do it for the week after. Okay, okay, okay. Wonderful, Brian. All right, I'll speak to you. If not next week, the week after, then all right, take care. Bye.
