This is a tessellation coil made out of a square 84 paper. Wow. Also very flexible. Where are you from? I'm from Korea, and well, I did spend a lot of my life in Korea. I'm from China and I live in Hanzhou. Tradimore my. I have two in the mapaper. Look at this. Wow. I've been doing work. I've been doing I've been doing more about me for like one year. And me so much my journey. I think there's another children here. His name is Daniel. Literally Yeah dance. We got that glass. Hello, low hit home. I gonna see him. I know now you're bigger. What's your name? Tell us your name. What's your. Name is your name with my name is no Juan Yuan Yuan. No, yo, U, an N, U won. Y, U, is it? Is it? It's a gorgeous Chinese name. Isn't it an yuan? The I. Will do my best. I'm going to practice. You're going to have to let me practice it. And how are you today? Are you good? I'm good. And put something in my screen that's giant ormous on my screen. I know because I've just made you giant Orso. I can have the power to make you big or to make you small. Oh, welcome. It's so nice to have you with this. It's gonna to say, hi, Daniel. How are you today? Such a I'm good. And and it's getting a bit cold, cold now since it's going the fall. Oh, it is cold. I'm with you. I'm not happy about this cold. I am very cold. It's very cold here. We've got lots of fog as well. I don't want this. I don't want any of that. Are are you putting yourself in lots of blankets? I think a two. Hi de three you okay? Yes. Yeah. Have you had a nice day today? Yes Yeah. I was getting Daniel last week guys Daniel to had to debate me he had to beat the teacher did very well. He did so well took you had to beat me I said poor Daniel you'll be very pleased Daniel you've also got a permanent person in here we've got your handles that who's actually on your trial today, aren't you? We're hoping you're gonna to join us and then we've got Hannah who I met a few nights ago. You were in a different class when you Hannah, hi swinineers. How are you today? Hannah, you're bored. Did you say this? Okay. Yes. Oh yes. Okay, you could say yes, I'm could have seen this book. It's got all the books. Hannah, Hannah, don't want you did her debating class in a different class, but she's joining us now as part of our class here. Hannah, how are you today? Have you done anything exciting or has it just been school or at home? That is a great day because it's our sports meet today. Like sports, you sports all day. A hot day and hot day, we have class and we have no homework today. No homework today. That's really good, isn't it? You've got lots of, Oh, we could share some. You've got that. You got work as well today. Oh no, Hanna's just there with no homework. Maybe, Hannah, do you want to take some of our homework? You could do some of ours. No pe I bet. Maybe, perhaps. No, I don't blame you, Hannah. I think that's a good answer. I wouldn't take someso. My God. Well, welcome all of you. I am so excited. But today, today, so look, we're going to be thinking about different styles of debating to start so hif we know styles of debating. Who knows? A style of debating. Oh, Daniel, come on. Is it arguing? Argudebdebating is arguing, but in a good way. In a in a nice way. Yeah, it's not just shouting personal insults. Yes, Hannah, what other debating styles do we have? And we. Rebutattling, yes, rebutattling is a good art style of debate. Three, what other style of debate do we know? Yes, maybe disgusting. Discussing, discussing, discussing. Yeah it did sound like disgusting, didn't it? But discussing? Yes, very, very well done. And I think for our newest member in our class, shall we explain exactly what debating is? So Daniel, can you tell us what is a debate? What do we have to do with a debate? What do we have to do in a debate? Daniel, can you tell us? We will, we like two sides, and we need to, we need to, we need to argue and you talk. Okay, let's PaaS button. You tell us. And make our points and Carry on three attack okay Anna's gonna tell us okay we're passing it round Anna go on tell us so it's like two sides we need to argue about our point just pro and corn so we should argue to each other and the purof the the people will the people who there's one people will think is that correct or that's Excellent Excellent we're gonna PaaS over to me now okay so Oh sorry I'm just that I'm really big on the screen okay so what's gonna happen with it we have an agree team so let's put three and down over here we have a disagree team okay we'll have a motion something like school uniform should should be banned and then we have a team that says yes it should and we have a team that says no it shouldn't okay and we have to use reasons we can't just say no because I don't like school uniform. That will not renew a debate. You have to say because it's hot, it's itchy it's expensive it's rubbish it's horrible the colors are awful no one wears it properly or if you're on the nerve it shouldn't it offers identity Yeah it offers something to wear every day. It's a good way of stopping bullying and you're going to present those arguments and then the chair with me, I am the chair person, will decide if the disagree or the agree team have one. Okay? And during this course, you will get a chance to be the chair as well. You'll get the chance to decide if someone wins or loses. Yeah, you're going to get that opportunity. And we have lots of different games that we do. So we do lots of different styles of debating. Sometimes we're in teams, sometimes we're head to head, sometimes we're on both sides. So we'll start on disagree, then do Grethen on greand then disagree. Okay. So lots of different ways of debating. We have parliament debates who do law rules and we have competition debates like ice cream is better than Jenny discuss. Okay. As well as thinking about arguing, I think Daniel says talking about arguing, it's arguing. Alilighting know what personal insult? You can't say you're wrong because your hair looks silly. Yeah, that's a rubbish debate. You can't say that. So we'll get time to prepare your debates as well. And again, lots of different ways of debating. Okay, thank you three. Thank you Daniel. Thank you Hannah for giving us that option. So let's see. We're gonna keep me down here for a moment. We're gonna have a little practice. Okay, get a little practice going to give you a motion. Okay, you're going to go first quick debate. We're going to have one on homework because hammer's got no homework today. Homework should be banned. Okay. What do you think? Okay, okay, okay. Okay. Okay, right. What do you think? Do you think? Yes. Do you think? No? Do you agree or do you disagree? You agree you agree. And why do you I get to maybe they get to write things because my homework is translated English words to Chinese. So so you think no, shouldn't be banned. You learn something, you can learn new things with home. Like okay, I like that. That's a very good answer. Okay, Hannah, do you agree or do you disagree? I disagree. You disagree. You disagree. You don't think it should be banned, okay? Why do you think it shouldn't be banned? It shouldn't be banned because when you do homework, the teacher can know how much you learned of the homework. Then you can make it that thing better. Improve for that. Okay? We can improve harder. Well, that all accidentally given your truth featright, okay, Daniel, do you agree with these guys? Would you disagree? Figushould be banned? I do think it should be. Yes, it should be banned. Oh, a difference of opinion. Okay, Daniel, why do you think it should be banned? Because, because, because homework, homework. Me, I like, we look at the paper and and it makes our eyes not sounds very good. And and also, we could have so much homework that we could, we could, we could have enough sleep. Eper, I don't have enough sleep. If you have too much homework, go huryour eyes. How people are going hurt your eyes. Daniel, I'd love to do this. Why do you think that tumuch Homer can hurt our eyes? Surely screens would hurt her eyes no, because some teachers give us all screams. So some homework Oh okay, I hear we you'll say okay, good argument at three where are you going? Are you agreeing? Are you disagreeing or is Daniel over here by himself or are you are we going three against one or two against two? Tiget two get two. Okay. Okay. Why do you think it should be banned? It really hurts our eyes because if we stood out of pages too long, okay, shorts, I they're like me. I already need glasses. Little, Oh no. What think because it's online. Why? But Hannah, Hannah, what do you think? Do do you think what they're saying is a good answer? Or do you think this is this is with silly no, it's got nothing to do with our eyes. It's much better for our brains to have homework. What do you think you want, Daniel? And three, you have now changed Hanna's mind. Okay, Hannah 's now joining you. Okay, Hannah, what's changed your mind? Why have you changed your mind last? I Shamy, I think in my mind. And then I thought, if we agree there, we have more points. I have more points to say. Okay, so why do you think banning it would be, would be a good idea? If you ban it, if you do a lot of homework, you'll get tired and you don't want to go to school. You have, if that happens, you'll get bad, you'll get you don't want to go to school. You'll be the teacher will be not happy and you can't learn many knowledge. So it's about time. Okay. Okay, right. Your honor. Na, you're on your own. You've been left essed two and my, you everyone's changing out positive. The teacher is deous. It's four zero four zero okay why have you changed your mind? Why are you changing your mind? Because I just remember when people talk about as I just remember sometimes when I'm doing homework I feeling my brain is gonna explode okay so no say overwhelming Yeah three yes over work and I head and then like went on explodes okay so actually so or teacher Lisa am I now the only one that thinks homework should not be banned? Great. I'm all by myself. Well and Daniel and Beray I've got to say Daniel on three changed yours minds they changed your mind. Ds, think about that. That's quite impressive isn't it? Well then so welcome you've just done your first debate and not only that we've just seen that we can change people's minds and opinions right Daniel A three made made a couple of points and and you all decided to go over there leaving me where I am. So we have also parliamentary debates, very serious debates these ones, okay? And we're going to have a little watch of this of how this government and opposition works and it's kind of how we do what we call the basics, the major debate. We do lots of different versions of debating, but this is perhaps the the reason it became created really is because of uk parliament politics. So we're going to have a little look. Let's see what we give. British parliamentary debate is the style of debate modeled after the traditions of the British parliament. The motion, which is what we call the topic that is being debated, is stated in the format this house, dot, dot, dot. For example, this house would ban phones, or this house believes that food should be free. These can be abbreviated as thw or thbt. There are no limits on what the motion can be, so debaters could be debating anything from law and justice to economics or art. There are two sides, government and opposition. Government supports the motion and opposition opposes it. There are four teams of two, two teams on each side. Each team is assigned to a position. There's opening government, opening opposition, closing government and closing opposition. Each speaker also has a name, an opening government. We have the Prime Minister and the deputy Prime Minister in opening opposition. We have the leader of opposition and the deputy leader of opposition in the closing government. We have the member of government and the government whip in closing opposition. We have the member of opposition and the opposition. The order that the speaker speak in is Prime Minister, leader of opposition, deputy Prime Minister, deputy leader of opposition, member of government, member of opposition, government whip and Opposition Whip. Only one of the four teams will win, meaning that teams that argue on the same side are still competing against each other. The first, second, third and fourth place are decided by one or more judges. The head judge is called the chair and the other judges are called panelists. Prior to the debate, teams are randomly assigned to their positions. Sometimes the motion is released in advance, and sometimes it is revealed just before the debate. In the second case, teams only have 15 minutes to prepare their arguments, and speakers in each team can only confer with each other, not with anyone from the other teams. Digital devices and access to the Internet are also not allowed during prep time. During the debate, each speaker has seven minutes to speak. The opening government defines the motion, provides arguments for their side, and the second speaker rebuts arguments made by the other side. The opening opposition rebutts the opening government's arguments, and then they provide arguments for their side. The closing government provides further arguments in favor of the motion that are different from, but consistent with, arguments made by the opening government. The second speaker then summarizes the entire debate on behalf of the government side. The closing opposition provides further arguments against the motion that are different from, but consistent with, arguments made by the opening opposition. The second speaker then summarizes the entire debate on behalf of the opposition side. The first and last minutes of each speech is known as protected time. During this time, no points of information can be offered. Pois are short statements or questions that the opposite side can use to challenge the speaker. These can't be more than 15s each. If a debater wants to give a poi, they will stand up and give an indication, such as extending a hand forward or saying point of information. It is up to the speaker delivering the speech to decide whether or not to accept the poi. If the poi is rejected, the debater who offered it should sit down immediately. Although they don't have to, speakers are strongly encouraged to accept at least one poi during their speech. Now you've learned the basics of how a British parliamentary debate works. But bp isn't the only style debate there is. Check out our videos on the other styles, such as public forum, world school style and Canadian national debate format. Also visit our website. So we've got lots of different styles, but everything kind of goes from this idea, from being on one team and another team rebuttalles and questions from the audience. And throughout the course we will be looking at different ways to do that, to practice those kind of skills. Alright, right? So real life politicians, mp's, they work for parts of the country. So each part of our country, each town has somebody that we have voted for to be our what we call representative. And they take our concerns and worries to the big parliament, to Prime Minister, okay? And then they can debate whether we should do it, change the law or not do it. Example, in where I live in Leicester, we might say litter is a problem. Please take that to parliament. Okay? And the mp who looks after Leicester will take that to parliament and debate it. Okay? So that's kind of how parliament and our government sort of works. Each place has its own person to represent. We've got to think about skills though. You've got to make a relevant point. If your motion is about school uniform, don't talk about sweets. It has nothing to do with your topic. Provide evidence. Yeah. Preparation time. You can use research unless you didn't know the motion beforehand. Personal views, they are not part of your debating. You are debating what we call objectively, looking at both sides of an argument, not what you personally feel. Okay, make notes. When people are talking, it's good to listen. Make some notes. Make a rebuttle. Make that argument not look as strong. Do not say their head looks silly. That's not allowed in our deband. We're going to speak clearly. We do not want you to speak this slowly, but we also don't want you to speak this really fast and absolutely can't hear anything. But you are again, get that data kind of under that eso. We want to present it nicely. Yeah we want to be making sure that we can see our faces. We can have notes. Yeah you can have your notebook put them here, not this. How am I gonna see your face this way? I cannot hear what you're saying. It's very difficult. And please, please, please, when we're debating what we do not want is this. What's wrong with this? Why why can we not debate like this? What's wrong with this? You, you you can't hear you properly. Again, you have this. It's awful. So we're not gonna to debate. We're don't going to debate like that. No one's going to debate like this and you'll be. Come back, come back, come back, come back. I don't be on my own. No. Oh, and then guys, it's timing. Yeah you will be given a timer and you will be asked to stop speaking after the time. Do not worry. Always say this. Do not worry if I've stopped you. It didn't mean your debate was bad. It just is for how we do debating. We just stop people. That's okay. Yeah don't worry if you don't win. Yeah not every you will not win every debate. You can't. Some debates just have a stronger side than the other. Some debates just have more reasons than the other side. And sometimes when you're debating, someone might just have done a very, very good piece of research that wins that debate that day. Remember when we are deciding who wins presentation, the time, examples mia, and also how you present the information is all going to count. Yeah. Someone can make a great debate. Can't see you. You're not going to win because you haven't engaged with me. Okay. So just keep that in mind when you're debating today's topic. Do you have to win to be successful? Three, I'd like you to kick us off. What do you think. If we're really. If we wanted to. The thing happened, then we need to be successfully. If we don't, then we may not. Okay. So do you think we have to win though to be successful? No, I don't think we I think we don't have to win to be successful. Okay. And why do you think we don't have to win to be successful? Because even if you didn't win, it didn't matter. Okay. And why doesn't it? Matter. Why does it matter, surely, if I'm in a race, don't I need to win the race to be successful? 因为你对一共三个人变了,底下的只有三个人变三个人都是一个人。So taking part is also important. Hannah, what do you think? I think you don't need to, you don't have to win to be successful because just try your best and video your best, does it? And also sometimes if three people, they they are, choose one side, then sometimes. Sometimes you should you will be the side, but you didn't prepare. So it's okay. Okay. And why do you think that perhaps helping each other, but like coming second or coming third, why can we still be successful even though we didn't win? Because you try your best. Everyone said it all together. Well done, Hannah. Perfect. Daniel. What do you think? Do you think you have to win to be successful? We don't. You went to be successful. You you must. You so showed your real skills and that makes you also successful. And also you had fun even though you did. Okay. Do you think that's important? Do you think enjoying something is more important than winning it? Yes. Yeah, we do we do think that if you if you want that and you still did not enjoy that that even even if you even if you got 1000 like 1000 million dollars, you still did not enjoy it Oh, okay. So we think it's a really important to have fun. Million dollars is not worth. Oh Oh, this is a bold statement but Daniel, a bold statement. But but but right, okay, right. Okay. However, if I came to the Olympics, the I'm going to represent my country and I don't come away with the gold medal. Surely I've been unsuccessful. No you tried your best and you tried your what do you think? I had two choices and first of all, taking my hand and thinking what was Daniels? Somehow, somehow everyone took them. Everyone took okay, so I'm gonna ask you something then. Okay, so this idea of something about fun. Yeah this idea of fun and trying your best, but I could keep doing something for fun but it's not gonna make my career any better. Surely I have to win to be able to be the best at something. Surely at some point I've got to win. I sure I that's okay. I'll repeat it for you. So if I'm if I'm going to go into a job, surely at some point I've got to win to get a job. Otherwise, if I keep losing, I won't have a job and I'll never win a race and I'll never achieve anything. Don't I have to win at some point to be successful? You can win yourself. You can win yourself. Okay, okay. So I could. I could. Yes. Okay. So I can make myself better. What do you think? I want to hear what you think. Do you think at some point I have to win? Or do you think, no, being successful is about working hard. I guess you don't have to win, but if you want, you could. Oh, now the debate's got interesting. Why do you think if you wanted to you could Oh sorry. Okay, wait, wait, wait, listen little listen, let's listen. Let's just listen. I'll come back to your promise. Go on my lovely. The stage is yours. Tell us because it's like your body movement is like your choice. It's your choice. Yes, it's your choice to win it. But do you think at some point if I go for a job say okay, I'm gonna to go and be a nurse or a doctor, don't I have to win an interview to get the job? Don't I have to win the job? I have to get the job, don't I? Otherwise I don't have a job. Do I not have to win at some point to be successful? I can't really understand what you're talking because I literally don't even know how to result out. Okay, so let's think about it in a different way. You're gonna get you're gonna get into a school, okay? You're gonna to get into the top school in the country, but you have to win in the test to be able to get into that school, but you have to win at some point to get what you want. Or do you think you can still be successful even if you didn't get into that school? I think you could be successful because you still tried your best. Okay? And why does trying your best mean more than winning? What can we learn from just doing the experience? Because if you try your best, then you know what you have to work on and then you could win next time. Now we're getting to that deeper level of it. Yes, well done. It was absolutely okay to ask me to rephrase that. Okay. Very, very well done. And yes, Daniel Hanna, you were talking right? Daniel, what were you saying? Actually, I forgot you forgot it. That's okay. Adam, what were you going to say? I forget you a question. How? Well, my question was, if I go for a job and I've got an interview for a job to get it, get a really good job with lots of money, don't I have to win that job? I otherwise I lose. And then I never get this lovely job. I've got to win the interview, haven't I? What do you think, Daniel? Even if you do not win, you could try another job. So it's just not the right job for me maybe. Okay, a simple okay, I like that. The simple what do you think, Anna? I think if you didn't win, you can, you can and your teacher can like teachers and these guys can can help you and know better about, and you can learn more and you can be more great and like the next race, you can be better and better and just do personal best. Okay. So I feel like we're all on the same page here. Well, Duwell done. So three, do you not think, do you think there's not we are gonna to still debate. Don't you worry, Danny, we might just do something a bit different because I can feel that everyone's very strong about it. So three, do you not think there's any situation we're winning is you need to win to be successful? Do you not think there's anything. Like you like in a matter of life and death, okay. So the extremities, we think the extreme would mean that wehave to win. Yeah. If it was life or death, maybe. Okay, right. And interesting. And every time I do this debate, every single one is really brilliant to hear. Nobody thinks that we have to win. Pretty successful, which is really, really great. So we are going to do something a little bit different today. Right here we are. Football team. Yeah, they reached the England football team reached the First World cup semifinal since 19 92018, a big, big deal. However, they didn't win. Croatia actually won in the end, and it broke the nation's heart because they wanted football to come home. However, they might have lost. Everybody in the country thought they were heroes. Yeah, because they thought it was a success. Even though they didn't win, they got really far and they loved watching the game. Okay? So sometimes not winning, even in sport, can just be something that's inspiring, something that's good, something that makes you perhaps want to take up football fun. So far? No, exactly. Exactly. Right. Here we go. Do you agree? I want you to see if you agree with this. You don't get anywhere by being nice to others, and failure is not an option if you're going to do something, youbetter know that you're going to succeed before you do it. Otherwise, it's a waste of time. Why bother applying for jobs if you know someone better is applying already? Why take part in a sporting event where a teams you're playing are better than you? Winning is about success. You can be successful unless you win. I'll avoid any situation if I know I won't come out on top. Do we agree? Any? Hands up. Weano? No, no. No, everyone says no. Oh, Oh, no, no. Unpopular opinion. X factor, okay, a positive. Here we are. Do we agree with this one? A positive outlook and enthusiasm is just as important as the desire to win. Even if we don't succeed immediately, we can take failure as an opportunity to learn and improve for next time. It could be a World Cup semifinal or a job interview. The logic is the same. You can be a success even if you don't win. Reflect on what went well and ask yourself what I can do next time and put those steps ps, into action. That's real success. Then the winning will come. Who agrees with this one? We, okay, let's do it. Yes. Okay. Well, handoes upside down. She's like on a roller coaster. What's happening down? Why upside down? Oh, no. Well, no, everyone's going upside down. It's like Willie wonker's chocolate factory. Oh no, do whole debate upside down now it's going to be crazy, okay? Yes, with a debate upside down, I was going to say that's gonna to make my brain hurt, right? We're gonna to be looking at preparating and presenting our argument. We're gonna do something a bit. Let's sprdown other other hand back in the brain and Daniel cuboard, it's hurting my brain. And okay, some rules when someone is making their speech, please, please, please do not interrupt them. Yeah, it puts people off and it makes people nervous. So no interruption and raise your hand if you have a question at the end of the debate. We won't necessarily be doing that today. So don't worry about that. And use notes when someone is making a speech, use notes. Okay, right. What we're going to do? Okay, everybody, I'm guessing no one wants to be on the affirmative team today. So guess what? You are all going to debate as a team. Yes, you are want the teachers shouldn't be the teacher and I'm going try and convince you to come on my team. Okay, right. So let's pull our screens back around the right way. So we're all in the debate together. Go on Anna. Yeah, it's lovely seeing you upside down but let's put you back the right way. Excellent. So everyone, you are now going to work as a team to beat the teacher. And what you're going to do is you can talk. I'm going to give you time to talk, okay? And you guys can think about what kind of points you want to make, okay? Then you're going to have some time to prepare your debate. And then I'm going to make a speech because affirmative team go first. That's all the rules. I'm going to make a speech. And then three is going to make her argument. I'm going to ask you a question, then three, I'm going to rebuttle you then. Okay, then Hannah will make a speech, and then I will rebuthannah. Yes, Hannah. The question is like can we go to different rooms to talk? Then you can't hear our talking possibly Hanna, yes, maybe we can make that happen. Yeah, even if it's just for a few minutes. Okay, so we've got three we'll talk. I will then I will talk, then three will talk and I will ask a question and rebuttle. Then Hannah will talk and I will rebuttle. Daniel will talk and I'm gonna rebuttle and then your hands 's gonna will talk and I'm gonna rebuttle. Yeah, yes. What's your question? What is the question for the debate? Wow, the question for the debate is do you have to win to be successful? Yeah. So if you're on the negative team, you're saying no. If you're on the affirmative team, you're saying yes. Okay, as per Hanna's request. Okay, now bear in mind I can still see you in the breakout room. So we're going to be sensible. Yes, and I will be popping in to make sure that we are working in English for your discussions. Please can we make that deal? Thank you very much. Not Chinese in your discussion. We're gonna to be doing English in your discussion. It's an English class. Okay, I can still keep my b's. You're only gonna to have three minutes in the breakout room, okay? Not going very long in the breakout room. So make sure you discuss in the breakout room what each of you are going to talk about. Then you'll come back and then I will give you a few minutes to write your speeches because you do not have to write them in the breakout room. Yes. Three. Can you can you hear see us talking? I can see you. I can see you. I can't hear you, but I can see you. Can you see us? Can we see you? No. No, no, so that's not fair. It is but I'm the teacher okay yes have my work just now. No don't amazing right I'll be ready because your three minutes will go by so quickly. Are you ready to go and have a channel and make sure that each of you are gonna talk about different points? Yeah I'm trusting you. Yeah okay right be sensible because I will have some very difficult questions so you must make sure you're working as a team. Okay, I'm going to start the reping. Here we go. Oh my goodness Hey I'm just gonna make sure you got in okay right let me leave you a bit of paper so you can have that okay you should all now have your pens work sensibly I will be back yes yes I scribble on the board though we're being sensible have it how do raise it I will erase it now for you okay you got three minutes use them paper you can write on a piece of paper as well if you want to got three minutes you ready your time talk starts okay? Because if we try your best and you make your personal best, it's good. Yes, this is. Everyone, Daniel, stop. Okay, we're going think of. Four different reading yes for to meeting. What is this? So we should try our best to win and that's it yes yes it is I'm doing write down it all is not working your pen is not working on the board it's okay then good to get a pencil okay Yeah I'm how we doing have we got some thoughts have we started to think about what reasons we're going give okay we're not we're not writing city things on the board there are we No Okay right okay I'll go I'll go you better Carry on you've only got two minutes Oh Oh my goyou got a first let's you try our best cil one know how to so first try our best if you know you didn't if you didn't win the teacher can help you know what to do what you're not good at and help you learn like. You still have fun. Every activity is for fun. Even even, even World Cup. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. Raise them all. Oh no, the timer is so auguchestra your turn. You have, you have to have something. Okay, I found fun because. Guys, we gotta quickly think of four different reasons. Even if you try your best and other team wins, it's it's just we are, I should try our best to win, but that's it. If you couldn't win, I'm okay. And it's just because I do. We have only two opinions, then stronger votes. I'm not sure. I'm not sure. Have a have about the have about the wiwhat's your name learn for next time. Bye timthe timer has gone God. Okay, so I'm going bring you all back into the without a it's okay don't worry Hannah it's just I want to make sure we've got some debating time as well don't worry if you're not sure we will fix it right but well done. Oh hello should be new now okay, I'm exiting this group we're back in the classroom. Okay do worry if you weren't able to find think of more than four, okay? So if you only got two or three, then use some of these examples to help you as well. Okay? So you're on the agree the disagree team. So mistakes and losses can help people to learn. Yeah they can also give you the right attitude toward being successful. Not winning means that you can actually learn from that and get more skills. Okay? Yeah right. Chat, I literally wrote them down on paper. So let's try best and learn for next time here. Perfect, amazing. Right now you need to put these into the face, right? So let's give you a couple of minutes. Let's give you four minutes, okay, I would like you to now write up your speech, okay? So that you're gonna then have some time, you gonna have two minutes to speak today so we can have things like in my opinion, I think firstly be cuts for example, maybe think about a time when you've not wsomething, for example. Yeah, I believe it's important to lose because I'm just shooting my homework. You can use that homework as well. Yeah don't worries your first time doing this. Do not worry if you feel like it's not going to be your best speech. Yeah this is also about growing confidence and prticing, but you can use these to help you Yeah use the sentence structures to help you build that speech. Please be mindful that my speech will probably be more detailed. Okay? That is simply because I have been debating for a long time. Don't worry about that neighbgood 15, 20 years of debating now, yes, I've won lots of competitions. And I can tell you the way to win is make sure those examples are in there. Make sure you know exactly what your thoughts are. Don't mix it. Don't get confused with them. That's it. Right? You'll have a chance to speak in a moment. Yeah wait, I'm gonna write down what each section is going to be on my notebook. So I don't forget yet. Yeah, perfect. Yeah. Like I said, you can make a full speech up, you can just write notes ready, and then you can use what's on the board to help you. Remember, firmative team will go first. I will deliver my speech first, and then I'm gonna select randomly. We'll do the rdom to work out who will go first, second and third in their speeches. So our first speaker on the your an amazing your good first then we'll have three and itbe three and then it will be Daniel and then it will be Hanna. Interesting interesting order. Okay, minute and a half and then we're going do it. Oh my gosh. My and it's like I need more time any more time. You'll have more time, Hannah, because you're getting lost. So you'll have time to, you could do it, in my opinion. I think we don't. I not, but no, no, shuthat get this away. I don't. Time to go. Go your time is going go off. Don't worry. It doesn't matter. Yeah remember this is all about learning. Yeah and some of that's okay. Your moabsolutely get your bums to help. I love it when your mum or dad health that's great. And if you don't and you're doing it so independent and if you're doing it independently, that's okay as well. Okay. It's all about building those skills up. Yeah or 30s. Don't worry, it doesn't have to be perfect if especially be debating about whether you should win to be successful. Yeah, think about you don't have to be perfect. You will build your skills in this to do your best. That's all I ever want. Otherwise, if you're perfect, why take good the course? Okay right, remember affirmative team I will make a speech first okay? And then I will ask each of you in turn to make your speeches and I'm going to then give you one question that's gonna to rebuttle you okay? So don't worry I can't fit you all on this page though when I pull everyone up you know it's the negative team, right? And it's taking a drink, an energy drink, ready, preparing, mindful. So I will go first, all right. And I will also only have, I will only have a minute and a half as I speak after okay, so welcome to today's debate. The affirmative team, Lisa will be going first on today's debating team. And we are looking at the motion. Do you have to win to be successful? Good morning, everyone. Today I want to talk to you about something that often divides opinion. Winning. We've all heard the saying it's not about winning, it's about taking part. But is that really? I believe that winning does matter, not because it makes us better than others, but because it pushes us to be the best version of ourselves. Winning isn't just about trophies, medals or certificates, but it's about setting goals, working hard and proving to yourself that your effort has paid off. And winning solidifies that. It makes it real. It's a clear sign of dedication, focus, determination. It's something meaningful. Winning teaches us that success isn't just luck, it's earned. Think about athletes. Winning bronze medal is not something they can do. Winning gold is the only way that they can be competitive and the best in the world. Of course, losing has its lessons too. I do hear that it builds resilience. It humbles us. It makes us want to do better. But losing is never the goal. Why would you start something just to lose it? Surely winning is the only way to quick fire success. So in my opinion, winning truly matters for successful ness. And winning shows us what's possible. We give everything. Thank you. Okay. Are you ready? Negative team? Okay. Our first speaker, please. Hello. Welcome. Okay. Your two minutes starts. No. Hello everyone, we are here to discuss. Do you have to want to be the in my opinion, I think you don't have to win, because even if you don't win, you can you try your best and you can learn for next time, so you can fix your mistakes and you better next time. Excellent. Thank you very much. A question for you. You said that we could learn and fix our mistakes for next time. But what if this competition is a one time competition that we need to win, then. You could try your best and use all your knowledge, okay? But what if I could never do this competition ever again? Would I still be okay not winning it? You would still be okay because you tried your best. Okay, amazing. Well, thank you very, very much. Well done. Done your first sing. Okay three you are up next at your time star. I'm here. You are three. Are you ready? I'm gonna start the time ing you want to be second. Okay, okay, okay, okay. We can move right? We can move right? We can move it round. Okay. Hannah, are you ready? Are you ready? We've swapped heayour. Time starts now. The first is, in my opinion, trying your best to win. That's it. Because if you try your best, but you didn't got to manit's, okay, because you just try your best and you can improve next time. And you can if you if you didn't win, the teacher can tell you a mistake to make. You can be better at it. You can improve your mistakes. And also you can learn forget you wanted to learn for from getting the champion. You don't you didn't get a champion. You want to get a champion then you'll be very like you very you want to learn for the champion and then you can improve you can improve your mentalso. Then you can you because you lose and you didn't find that's a great thing. Thank you very much. And you've talked about this idea of motivating so becoming a champion. But Hannah, what if I just keep losing? Then surely I'm never learning from my mistakes. If I just keep losing things, it's okay because if you lose, you can learn everything you lose for time. You get another you get another like knowledge. Okay. So we could we consistently make ourselves smarter each time we lose something. Interesting point. Yes. Because sometimes like because sometimes sometimes you're bad and and other people is all bad. But if sometimes you're you're improving and other guys is also improving so so you guys are well well don't have they're nice rebuttals very well then you held your own there. Yes. Three, you're gonna ask today that you went to go next. Okay. Sorry I'm sorry. Oh, Daniel doesn't want to lose his position. Three, you've already made it you've already made the swap with Anna. You've had the choice to go second we'll get the sticker to your are Daniel are you ready? We're not just gonna scream down through my poor ears could not take the screaming let's not scream. Okay Daniel, you ready? Okay, time starts three. We're gonna be sensible. Okay Daniel, your time starts now. Today we're talking about winning. And do we have to win to be successful? My in my opinion, we don't have to win to be successful. Firstly, if you lose, you so had fun. In fact, every activity is for fun. The board games, your sports, say, even the World Cup, it's all for fun. And and even if you lost, you still can have fun in whatever activity you are in. Secondly, secondly. Even if you come second place or faryou, can you, can you still showed your real skills and tried your best? Showing your skills and what you learned makes you successful and. Thirdly, if we lose, we can learn from the mistakes like a test. If we did not get 100%. And the mistakes we make can help us learn and and can make us better. Okay, well done Daniel. Daniel, I love this idea of the board games. This was really good. Okay, Daniel, you talked about, you did talk about the board games, but do board games really show us improvement? Like they're just fun, right? But if it's something we really need, then surely we need to win to be successful. Do you know do you think Yeah on but based on every game every every game is for fun the gold the gold medals and the silver medals are just a way to reward you if you win okay amazing so this idea that actually we can learn from it well done dgo I it's not like it's not like you're just gonna go dead Yeah that well okay okay a cost of time we're gonna get to 33 is our final participant before we reveal our winners today three are you ready? You've got two minutes your time starts now off you going nobody is perfect that's why if you lose it's all if you will you will just be okay at it even if you never win you can still be the best if you tried your if you tried. And also is if. If you're the biggest person, it's already it's already it's not just very bad because there are always people even more better than you. So actually, maybe we should think about the fact that we're not always the worst. Outtecthree, thank you very much. Three, you talked about no one being perfect, but isn't that the reason we go to school? Isn't that the reason we do tests? Isn't it the reason we do athletic competitions is to be perfect? No, it has to be better because no one is perfect. No one can be perfect. And why do you think no one can be perfect? Because if we are perfect, then we would we wouldn't need to go to school. We wouldn't need wouldn't me have those stuff? Wouldn't need it, would they? Well done. Absolutely brilliant. Three. Shall I tell you guys, I'm so proud of it. You worked so well as a team as well. It was really nice to hear all take a little bit. Okay, voting time now. Do we think the affirmative team is won? Anyone for the affirmative team? I thought my speech was really good. Who's for the negative team? I knew you were all going to say yourselves. I think that truly, I think the negative team has definitely one today. Well done, all of you. That was epic. Working together was amazing. Yeah, well done. Yeah. Boo. You beat the teacher today. You beat the teacher. Well done. Hi. Five to everybody. Hannah. Nice reasons. Dyou the idea of a fun and board games. Three. Nobody perfect. Your your all the structures. Yes. What's your question? I actually really like this pile and be thinking of actually being in this class. Oh, well, we would love it if you were in our class. We've really enjoyed having you in here today. Yeah, you've done really well. You've all did amazing. Oh, everybody did amazing. Did again what we can say what he started at the okay, this is the debate for next week. The more you have, the happier you are. Think about both sides. Research both sides for me and we'll be doing something a little bit different next week. So you need to have both arguments. So research both sides for me. Well done. You're amazing. Thank you so much. Anna. Thank you, Daniel. Thank you three your have a wonderful rest of your day. Shall I give you your pens? You can have a scribble. You can have a scribble when I leave all bye guys.
