Alice, what is a debate? You tell me what a debate is. A debate is like about different people have like different opinions about like one thing and they debate, well done. Yeah I express their opinions and like by who like who's like to the like like there's a teacher and there's like two student and like a two student or something like on the paper. Like what do you seem like? Like example for example, like the question is, do you like. Just like do do you like homework? Okay, like some like like when I was a student, they're like, yes and they write, why? And another people said, no, disagree, no. And and they like have the answer. And Victor, what do you think is the most important part about debating? I think the most important part is someone don't agree with with other people that do not agree with his opinion. And. And so Yeah, I agree with that. Or we might say, no, I do not agree with this. This is rubbish. And you will think of reasons you're going to be building to three reasons. You're going to find three reasons why you agree or disagree with this, okay? And then you will debate against each other in teams and separately, okay? And what will happen is we will decide who argued best. Big thing, no personal attacks. We do not say anything about the team member, just the subject. Okay? Just because you didn't win the debate does not mean your argument was bad. It just means that the argument put by the winning team was a better argument for the motion. So I don't want anyone to feel bad if they're like, Oh, I didn't win today. That's okay. It doesn't mean it was a bad argument. It just means the other argument was a better one for that debate. Okay? You sometimes debate on something you agree with. You might debate on a team you don't agree with. That's debating. Okay? So I think Alice and Victor said it much better. Let's have a look at a video thatintroduce us all into debating. Here we go. The kids at my cousin's school don't have to wear uniforms next term. I think that's cool. I think that's a shame. Uniforms give pupils a sense of pride in their school and their appearance. Uniforms are silly. You wouldn't catch me wearing a uniform, but you aren't wearing a uniform. Your football strias a uniform. Imagine what would happen if football players wore whatever they wanted. It would be total confusion. Even the players wouldn't know who to kick the ball to chaos, and the fans wouldn't know who to support. Oh, I see what you mean. You've scored your known goal. One point for me. But uniforms can be very expensive, and not everyone's parents can afford to buy a new one each term. And kids go out of their uniforms too. And if you rip it, you'll be in trouble. Every single one of you has debated. So debate structure, okay, topic will be given a topic. We've got a topic today that you're going to be working on two teams. We've got six in the class. We've got even teams today. So we will be doing 33. You will have time to prepare your debate. We will also have a class discussion as well to help you. And then you will do a presentation. We will start with one and a half, two minutes. By the end of this course, I want you to be speaking for three minutes. Okay? But we will build that. That's not for you to achieve today. That will be a lot, okay? So over time, you'll be doing it. You will work together sometimes. You will work singularly on your own individually sometimes. And you will be on teams that you agree with, and maybe you'll be on a team that you don't quite agree, but you're going na have to debate anyway. So you're going to lots of different skills. So as we were saying earlier from Victor and Alice, we have a yes team and agree team to the topic, and we have a no team. Okay, so we call it the affirmative team. They go first. That team always goes first in a debate. It will go affirmative, negative, affirmative, negative, affirmative, negative questions, which you'll see how it works later. Repair, discuss with your teammates. You'll be putting to teams. You will have a chance to chat, to ask them what they think. Make sure you're not saying the same thing as your teammate. Make your arguments strong. Yeah. So you'll have a chance to talk to each other. Then you will speak. Each of you takes a turn to speak. Okay.
