Hello, good evening. Sorry. Hi. Sorry. Ericco is still having his dinner because we came back very late today. So Yeah, allow him for a five more minute. Oh, that's absolutely fine. Yes, no problem. Thank you. First. Thank you. No problem at all. Thank you. Hello. Hey guys. How are you? Good. Did you have a nice dinner? Yes, good. Making me think about my dinner that I'll be having after this lesson. Okay. I've got your homework, so thank you for that. Just need to remind myself what the task was and then we can have a look. Did you give my mom the task? Yes. Yeah, Yeah, I've got it. I've got it. I've got your homework. Don't worry. This one. So you had to describe this image of a winning cyclist using a range of sentences, including colon, semicolons and dashes. So we've got the famous cyclist with bonus adyou're. Okay, this. Sorry, I said that again. And migo, I haven't only remembered this because because we didn't have a lesson last week, did we? So it's been a couple of weeks since this. So maybe that's why we've forgotten. 我没有,我不用干什么不用干什么。I don't want anything. Everything okay. Yes, okay. Gloriously, the cyclist arrived happily at the cycle station. The people who were very excited have missed our sea there. Excited, asked for signatures. A while later, the exhausted cyclist took a drink in her house, having done a great achievement. The journey, journey, the journey around the world appeared in her head in the desert. She climbed out of the sandpit beside the Amazon. She avoided hostile Indians were at a Jamaican market. She bought a ton of spice. Okay, because it was the last, I said he Oh, I've still got this. So did anybody give you this, Enrico, to tell you that it needs to include colons, semicolons and dashes? No. Oh, okay. Well, then that will be quite difficult, wouldn't it, to know what we were doing? Okay. So don't worry about that, Enrico. Yeah. So did they just give you this picture? What did they ask you to do when you didn't give her anything? Well, that's I uploaded the homework to hear and to fssing as usual. And I wonder if somebody, usually somebody sends it across or maybe they forgot, but isn't it but you must have been told something because how did you know to write it about a cyclist? Or is that just coincidence? I remember I remember to write the dosong Australia remember the okay, right. I'm going to send a message then just to check that the people at the you know, the people who run these lessons that they remember to send the homework or to show you where the homework is because I can you see I uploaded it here look on the class in homework two weeks ago. So. I'm just sending a message to make sure that they remember this. Right. So we werworteawork about that. I mean, it's a good piece of writing. Just a couple little spelling corrections. And we've got our adverbials in there a while later in the desert at Jamaican market. That's great. Some good vocabulary. Yeah. Obviously we just haven't got any colon semiconons or dashes, but we didn't know that, did we? So that's not your fault. So let's have a look what we're doing today. So today we're on to lesson five called title and planning. Oh, maybe are we on est with five? Yeah Yeah, we are. Okay. So a bit of a quick review here on narrative writing from a title. So it says questions which give you the title for a piece of writing require you to think of engaging and original ideas for innovative. That doesn't make any sense for innoative innovative ideas, I think, as means which are clearly and constantly linked to the title. So you often get these kinds of tasks in exams and Rico, so it's really good to practice them outside of exams so that when you get one in an exam, you know you're already familiar with you know how to approach this kind of thing. So for example, you might get a question that says something like write a story entitled the rescue any way you like. So that means they don't mind how you write it, you know in what kind of way, as long as you end up with a story that's related to this title, the rescue. So it says, how do you interpret this title? So if you've got given that title, the rescue, how would you interpret that? You know, as in like how would you you know, what would that make you think of for a story? Police titing criminals who were tidying people or firemen and climbing up stairs to say today, say, people who are having a nap. Yes, that's kind of more like what I think. I think of someone traditionally more like being saved, you know, like a kind of damsel and stress kthing, you know, Cinderella up in the tower, her being rescued, that kind of situation. So when it says anywhere you like, it means no, it could be a story about something that's happened to you, about you being rescued. You could write about, it could be based on a rescue that you read about in history. And it could even be, you know, being rescued from physical danger. You could be rescued from a boring situation or from an embarrassing situation. I should. Her name, that story, the rescue for it is resky for I am rescuing myself from from a boring situation. Yeah, there you go. You could write about somebody rescuing you from having to write that story. Or or me respewing myself from a Chinese lesson yes, something like that exactly. Because Yeah quite often you know most people, you know most students would read that and they would think straight away like yes, firemen rescuing someone from a fire or something, but to do something a bit more different and to do like being rescued from a boring situation or from an embarrassing situation, that would definitely be you know more original and you know a very different to what everyone else would write and that would make it stand out a bit more, be more memorable. So when we're thinking about stories, we want to remember the five W's, who, when, where, what and why. So the who is obviously, you know, for this situation, it would be, who needs to be rescued? Who came to the rescue? When do they get into trouble? When does the rescue happen? Where does the rescue happen? What kinds of trouble do they need to be rescued from? Why do they need to be rescued? All these questions weneed to think about. It says it's important that your story idea is closely related to the title all the way through. It must not seem as if you've just written the story of your choice and briefly mentioned the title. For example, you couldn't just write, you know, if we had the story, the rescue, and you wrote a story that was completely different, you know, about, I don't know, three people trying to find a treinterest, yes, or something like that. And then right at the un, you said, Oh, and they rescued a cat from a tree, and that's why it's called the reof. You that would be quite silly, wouldn't it? Don't think that would get you very many barbs. Or they said, Oh, at the end, when they've got the treasure in the car, they were listening to a song called the rescue, you know, that would not quite fit, would it? So would have to do it all the way through. All about rescuing Cabet and from being eating or a king was screhis cabbage from being eaten by a dog. That would be a good rescue. Okay. So we're going to have a go here. It says create a mind map of ideas based on the title. So here we have the title. The. Hidden book. So what I maybe I maybe, just maybe I will just write home, you're holding a Harry Potter book. You could do that. So what we're going to do is think of lots of different ideas that you could use with this. So a load of different ways of writing a story on the hidden book. For example, like you've just said, hiding hiding my the Harry Potter book. There you go. What else? What other story ideas do we get from this? Being a whole poof book. What did you say? Finding? Yes. Oh Yeah, hiding and finding. You could make it more mysterious, like, you know, looking for something in your bedroom and finding an old book you have never seen before, you know, dot, dot, dot, what's that going to be about? How did he get there? Maybe you guess, max, you love spells, ancient spells from the book and you. I don't know, maybe you use a, you use a tree stick as a wand to make your horbed fly in the sky. Oh, okay, nice. That is an interesting idea. Yeah, I think those more interesting sort of unusual, kind of funny ideas are the ones to go with because then you could create a really interesting story from them. Okay, what about this next one that now we've got another one titled the accident. Let's just posit on here the accident. What ideas could you think of for the accident? 嗯。Haccidentally he dropped him from bike and fighin gold. Oh. That a heartwarming story. That would be heartwarming. You could make an accident like you know it wouldn't just have to be an accident like you know falling over or whatever. It could be an accident like like finding finding goal when when you look down. Oh Yeah, that would be a good, very good accident, wouldn't it? Or you could do something like accidentally becoming the king of England. Or you could have an accident of finding. Book a mense Hey, Hey. Bake the five minutes. Go on your plate after you, you're going to the toilet. Oh goodness, you could do accidentally going back in time in a time machine and going to the year 300, or accidentally going into a time machine and going into the future and not knowing what to do and being lost. It was quite a few fun accidents I think you could have, couldn't you? Yes, and there's another accident, you dropping from a Cliff and breaking your arm. Yeah, I've definitely done that before. Okay, what about the broken mirror? Maybe? Somebody, maybe a precispirit, is broke and. A book of minced pies are fine behind them. I made yesterday. Do you like the minpies? Sounds like you do. Do you? Or or a toncle, or a tongue of pure silver? Oh, that would be good. That would be worth a lot of money. Then you could buy lots of mince pies, thousands of mince pies. Okay, so finished with those ideas. Now we'll have a look at some story planning. Because when you're writing a story, even if you've been given a title, obviously you still need to make a plan. So it says before you plan your story, it can be helpful to have a story pattern. Here are some suggestions like overcoming a problem, a quest or a journey, conquering a monster, a warning, a character flaw. These are some very, very common sort of story plots. You know, something that is lost and then is found. If you use a sort of common plot like this that you know well, it makes it much easier to write a good story because the plot is basically already mapped out for you. Oh, there's lots more here wishing catastrophe magical stories with the moral, a changing story, like from sad to happy, someone going from poor to rich, weak to strong, good over evil. These are very, very quering are like conquering the monster. Yeah, Yeah that's a good one, isn't it? Because the monster can't be anything. Okay, he, it could be he a panda trying to, it could be a bear trying to lick your trying to lick your chunk of silver or a cockrot I want to eat your winspice. Yeah, it could be. It could be it could work out a way to you know, use that you know interesting story into a monster story. Yeah, you're definitely good. So jotting down ideas can help you plan your story. Your plot should be simple and drive towards the end. So here's some ideas to help with story planning. We can do blow charts to plan a play or a story that's souset number of paragraphs, for example, timelines, if you want to look at the order, things are going to happen. Storyboards to help you visualize each one. Picture mats to create the setting and the plot together in a visual way, if that helps you, or a story mountain to build the excitement and interest. Story mountain is probably the best and most common one to use, I would say. So a flow chart looks a bit like this. So it says this method is helpful when you have a set number of scenes or paragraphs and can really assist you in planning a play. You use a circle for each scene or paragraph like this. So for example, yousay at home, then in the woods, then at the haunted house in the woods. That's a very, very simple flow chart the setting as if then at the secret silver room in the at the hunhouse, then can you will say, Hey, at home, having tonunks of computer pure silver. Always thinking about silver and minced pies. Okay, next one a timeline. You can read this one for me. Do you want to read what's on this board for me? Went school. The most. This is helpful when you have to plant things in a chronological order. It is particularly because when planning a letter or die ary. Good. So good for showing the sort of events. Okay. Then we have storyboards, a bit like a comic really. Can you read this one for me as well? Storyboard storyboard really helps you visualize your story. It allows you to map out sorry. Using words and pictures, and it's a bit like a cartoon strip here story. She is part of the story book for a famous story, can't tell what it is. What is it? Peter Pan, so we've got a cottage in the country with an old woman baking, and we've got run, run as fast as you can, open fields and a cow chasing. I do not know. So run, run as fast as you can. And I think that's from I'm the gingerbread man, but I don't really know that story too well. I kind of just know it as like a nursery rhyme. But it's supposed to be a like of fairy tale story. I think it's supposed to be the gingerbread man. Run, run as fast as you can. Famous line from the taferi tell the gingerbread man. Yeah so in the story, the gingerbread man comes to life and escapes from the old woman and man who baked him, taunting them and later other animals. As he runs away, he eventually meets his fate with a fox who helps him cross a river and then eats him. Oh dear. Let's look at. You okay? Yes. I am good, okay? Next one, Yeah, you can see this one for me, visualizing your story that some people find helpful. The next lecis, a very famous story for Young children to story picture back. It's message can work for all types stories, but it's particularly good if you're using unusual setting like a third fiction and sy story. They can be drawn on that actual map base or as a pictorial float chart. Right? Why is Nick cliking next? What is going on with my class in next, next, next? There we go. So this is a very much more detailed story map. Yeah. So we've got a family going, a bear hunt. Oh, family gone, a bear hunt. There's long wavy grass. We've even got some work with some on a mattapia here. Swishe's squy a deep cold river splash flush thoozy mud swelelp squirch a big dark forest stumbled trip a swirling, whirling snowstorm, Oh, narrow, gloomy, caved so and. It's a bear bear sehis family back home through the route ot. So you could do this if you wanted, but itprobably take you. Quite a long time to draw all of these pictures if you wanted to do it really good. You know like if you were if you were in an exam and you had to write a story about a bear hunt, I think you might spend most of your time doing this instead of writing your story. So that's something to consider about a story board like this. You know, it's not really an art. What is this famous story? So this is the bahood. It's like it's a children's book. And it's like we're going on a bear hunt. We're going to capture a big one. It's like sort of got like that. And then it's kind of like the long wavy grass, they can't go through it. They have to go around it. A river, they have to go around that and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. It goes on and on and on and on like that until they find ind the bear. Under the hunted? I don't think so. I think he just kind of taated them home so they don' T Hunt it. I think the bear kind of wins. And then the last one we have is the story mountain, a good method if you want to build excitement or interest into your storyline. A good plot should have moments of suspense or crisis, and characshould be faced with problems or challenges. Mountains. So it says you could do a very simple story mountain that looks a bit like this. You know, the task is set. Spider and red beard are captured by a dragon. They make phones of the dragon and return. This is very, very, very simple kind of story mountain. Or you could be more detailed and write about, you know, the opening, the buildup to this big problem. The problem, usually this would be the climax up here, the resolution and the ending. I actually have a video that shows this. I can show you shows in a bit more detail here. Look. This will help you. Hello readers. I'm going to draw you a map right now and it's gonna to look like I've drawn a mountain. But it's not a map of a mountain. It's a map of a story. What you're saying? How do you map a story? What makes a story pointy? These are great questions. And to answer them, I'll say this today. We're going to talk about the elements of a story or the parts that make it up like ingredients in a recipe. Many stories follow a similar pattern. Good readers know what these patterns are and can talk about them using the right terms. And this helps everyone be on the same page, so to speak. When you discuss or write about the stories you read, I'm about to drop a lot of vocabulary on you, so brace yourselves. The story begins with exposition, where we learn about the characters and the setting. Then we introduce a conflict or a big problem. As the characters begin to interact with the conflict or try to solve the problem, we enter rising action, this upward slope of the story mountain. When the conflict comes to a head, we hit the most exciting part of the story, the climax. Here, the conflict can't go any further. We're at the top of the mountain. There's nowhere else to go except down after the climax, after this most exciting part of the story, we enter falling action. The climax will happen much closer to the end of the story than to the middle. It's not a symmetrical mountain. The action slows down. The problem has been solved. Or maybe the problem has changed. And the characters prepare for the last phase of story, the resolution. This is where we tie up loose ends. Characters reflect on what they learned. Maybe a set tup, a sequel. Now look, that was a lot of information all at once. In order to make sense of it, let's apply all of those terms. A story. Now, our go to has been the three little pigs. And while that's a story everyone knows, I'm starting to think it needs to be freshened up a little bit, really working its franchise potential. You know, so let's go through the elements of story by looking at my new project, a reboot of three little pigs that I'm calling tlp starbound. See, it's three little pigs, but it's in space. That's that's a space helmet. So I'm gonna to put a little story map here in the corner. Okay, so the exposition, it's the future. Pigs have expanded to every corner of the galaxy. Three brave little pigs decide to strike out on their own exploring a new exciting region of space. One builds a spaceship out of straw. Go with me here. One builds a spaceship out of twigs, and one builds a spaceship out of a flexible hyper alloy they developed in a laboratory. She's the brainy pig. So we've got the setting. It's the future. They're in space. We've got our characters, the pigs. Now the conflict. Along comes the notorious space pirate captain Wolfe. He's big, he's bad. He wants to blow up the spaceships and eat the pigs. He begins hunting down the pig ships. Ps, one at a time. Think Captain Wolf has an eye patch? No, he has a cyber eye. He's part robot. And now we enter our rising action phase. Captain Wolf engages the straw ship. They have an exciting space battle. And straw pig escapes in the little escape pod to the twig ship. But Captain Wolf follows. He is undaunted. The tension continues to rise. He destroys the twig ship. The two pigs escape again, this time to the brick house. I mean, the flexible hyperalloy spaceship piloted by the science pig. And now we come to the climax. Captain Wolf comes to the advanced chip. He tries to blow it up, but he can't. It's too powerful. He decides to board the ship because that's the only way heget to eat the pigs. But the pigs trap him in a space barrel while he's still in the airlock. They did it. They solved the problem. Captain Wolf is trapped in a space barrel, and he can't eat them. Now the climax is past, and now we enter the falling action phase of the story. In the version of the story that I know, the three little pigs roll the barrel into the river. So I think maybe in this version they they punt the space barrel out the airlock into the cold void of space, or maybe they strand him on a deserted planet. But in any case, they never have to deal with the wolf again. The threat is now gone, and that means that the conflict has been resolved. We're in the resolution part of the story. Now. The first two little pigs, the straw ship pig and the twig ship pig, learn that they need to put more work into their spaceships if they want to survive in space. And they build fancy spaceships just like the science pig. And that's an introduction to story elements. Now that you're familiar with the ideas, start applying them to your favorite stories. You can do this with any form of media, books, comics, tv shows, movies, games. What's the conflict? How is it resolved? Once you start looking for story structure and entertainment, you will find it everywhere. Let us know what you see. You can learn anything, David out. So that really, you know shows in depth how a story ory mountain can be used to create an exciting and interesting story. Yeah. So once you've kind of got your story and your you know your plan, you've written your story, you can use what we call a toolkit to basically check that we've got everything that we wanted to so we can sort of check each of these things off. Do you want to read the checklist for me? Use your plan to help you write your story. May time to are your original gin idea, improve the dialogue. Is there too much? And the dialogue actual description made the story worplace or in class rash, he the setting to create different elements with, so would one then characlike, but would they say indeed? Not really sure what these people are doing. Drawing a picture of a headless man. Well, no, a man with just a head, a bodiless man. Okay, you can also think about a language toolkit. You know, have you stayed in the same tense? Have you stayed in the same person? Have you used connectives to link ideas and sentences and paragraphs? So is your title. And we're going to create a story mountain. Using this title. Now hang on, I think I have a. Story mountain template just give me a second. Okay. Okay, so here's your template and you're creating a story mountain using the title, the unexpected guest. So what plan would you come up with if you had to use you know write a story on this title? Remember, it's just a plan. You're not writing the story. You're just coming up with these elements. How to this me the unexpected guest brackets a cockroot. Do you think yoube able to write it on the board for me on this picture? Ure, very good. I'm just going to make it so that this is just all one box, so it's easier when you're typing. Okay, don't worry about this one in the middle. I don't even know. I don't think we'll be able to finish all of this to be honest. I would just focus on. These Yeah just a couple of bullet points along the way like we saw in the video. So I'll make your writing black so I can see it clearly. There we go. Where is it? What you're writing because you're writing in White, you might want to change it into black for me, and then we'll be able to see it when you write it. It doesn't make many sense. Okay? I eat a pie. Cockroach comes. I fight against buof. My pie, I won. Okay. The ending should be here. The reso, the resolution, remember, is like fixing the problem. And then the ending is like putting it all together, you know, finalizing it all. So what would your resolution be then? Okay, so the unexpected guess is is the cockroach, I guess. Yeah. Okay, interesting. Yeah. It's an interesting way of thinking about it. Much more interesting than you know a way which would probably be more common. Yeah, I like it. Okay, let me just see if there's any. Still got twelve minutes. Also have that one. I'm just opening what files are on here and there's sent some extra reading, but that's not for us. Okay, we'll have another go. We'll have another go because you've got time. So you can choose this time. We've got three titles, one called cooking, one called party, one called for scary experience. Which one would you like to come this time? Okay. The most scest experience on my mom is seeing. Okay. So you create your story mountain on this title for me. What are you doing it? Okay, my meecrab spider comes there. Mum screams, she blew it to away using my fan. We ate crab together. Quite a similar story to the one before. This is a story and what Beit is. No, it isn't, but my mom does have feels spy does. Even those small ones, like the ones you've put in whset park, she screams like cute. That's like me too. Today I had a big wasp in my, in my living room. So that was not very fun. It was massive, like this, big, so fat. Let's spoke roppo. Okay. And always had a yellow Jack flying inside my room. Oh, my goodness, that's not very nice. And my mom killed her using a fly slap. Yes, that's good at her. I would do that too. Well, I just, the wasspp is on my window, and I just flat. No, thank you. Okay, right. Let's have a look. No, it doesn't describe. Any homework on here? What is the homework? Yes, it does. The homework just wants you to do another story mountain. So I will just give you one of these and you can. I'll give you some more interesting titles. I think looking looking is not a very exciting title, is it? Okay it should be about. I don't know, maybe cooking a crab and the pike pie. So I've said, please plan a story using the story mountain, choose from one of the following titles. And can you try to add up a little bit more detail into your plans because you'll obviously have a little bit longer. I've given you the titles, the secret door, the day the classroom vanished, the mystery of the talking cat and the holiday went wrong. So you can just I only want you to do one of these, but if you want to do more than one or you time for more than one, than you're welcome to. Okay. And the next lesson, let's see what we're doing next lesson. Next lesson, we are looking at predictions. So I think we're going to be doing some reading. Using our like predicting skills about what will happen next. I also have a fun video which sort of sort of shows some you know like video clips and you have to kind of guess what is it what it is it's gonna to happen next. So we can do that as well as part of our lesson. So I've put the homework on class in and Rico, but what I will mind remind the people that put on this lesson to you know, make sure to send all the details to you. I might even be able to share it on the chat. Let me see if I can do that in here. Oh, and I will also give you the story mountain template, but obviously you can just write it on paper. You don't have to use the template. You can just sort of make your own. Okay. Then we're also going to have a look at some story plots as well so we can write we might even be able to write a story or something. That's eight. That's son nine. Yeah, we'll see how that ends to come with our remember our ideas that we had today, not next week or the week after. So we don't forget about them. Okay, Enrico. So I'll make sure that someone gets that homework to you so that you can see it this time. Good work today, good imaginative ideas. That's what we want. So make sure you know you're creative in your homework here, thinking of those story mountains as well. And I'll see you next week. Okay, thank you very much. Bye bye. Hi, migo.
