Hey, Peter, how you doing? A A bit confused. Well, Yeah, me too. Yeah, there was there was some scheduling error. The class wasn't appearing on my software on class and but it has been scheduled now because I can get into it. Was it appearing for you? We were you in the class waiting? Yeah waiting for 40 minutes and Oh gosh, I'm really hungry. I didn't have, I didn't even have the breakfast. And I want, do you want to make yourself some bras? Well, you can put the camera, you know, somewhere where you can make yourself breakfast. I really don't mind. If you want to eat I don't have any breakfast no I don't have any breakfast now is we are I think we are at the same time but I also didn't have lunch as well it too many too many people with our your hope but you're you're in the uk now right so it's 224Yeah I'm in the uk so you haven't had lunch and what you can't order a deliver. We come. We can against the to keep ourselves. Well, I don't have, I don't even have a nap to all the foods. You don't even have an app to order food. Okay? When in that case, you really are screwed, I don't know what to suggest. Maybe just eat yourself. That's the only thing left to do. Self ability. All right, let me just get a glass of water and I'm going to start this beautiful thing. Yeah. Oki doki. So how did the tests go, Peter, to? Not too bad. Honestly, what were they? They do so well. They didn't go so well, but they didn't go so badly. It didn't go so it didn't go stop bad. Okay. What the what were the hardest questions that came up? Can you remember? Well, now we're not doing when I'm doing the kings camp rase question, the most of the question, not the most of all of the question, are multiple choices, right? So I can't really remember. Just kind of like the world economic, and it's something like the countries countries that you drink ks, most of alcohol, you know? Yeah. And give me a graph and see some multiple choices. Where was the uk on those rankings? Was the uk like number one, Scotland? Who which country drank the most alcohol? Can you remember? No I think it's Russia and Yeah Yeah that checks out they do drink a lot a lot of vodka. All right. So tell me a little bit about the interviews that are coming up. What schools do you have interviews for? It mean the future or in the past in the future which were there are that's a hamstick. Yeah, okay. But I'm also welcome. Start school. This place. Have you visited this place before? No, never. Not a, that's giving me anxiety. I don't know what the, I couldn't get the sound to turn off. Let's have a look at that another time. Were you hearing it? There was those some like weird double echo effects on the audio work stairs. Go on, the web is hard enough. Anything to each other away. I got something, if anything, Beris a way of life that's ingrained in you. It's not just so it as a big community, when every day thing I wanted to go back, I thought, alfrom what, a couple of years ago. I thank gothere's a way of not having to listen to that. Okay, so birkham said school, it's a boarding school in hertfordre. Okay, that's good to know. We can definitely brush up on that. And what are the other ones? Do you remember any of the other schools? Ban口。What? Concord College Concorde Concord College. Okay. Boarding school and statistics, right? Isn't it in England? Cowards England. Oh. My God, is this the one in rich nodes? No where is this? Or Hong school, I think it is. If it's not Hong Kong College, is it not this? School school. This. Looks very likely, you know. Sorry, I don't really think Paris. Okay, one quote two and try school try school. This looks like the same thing, but just for younger kids, I think it is. I think it's Concordes college, International College I, Oh, seven to three acres of stish English countryside. I, okay, maybe it's not. I, I thought it was the wrong, but I grew up there. Okay, where is it? Contact? Telephone Email ozen drew okay. Called college, all right. Any others you can remember? No, you haven't had an offer fear from do you know what the decision was for kings? Or they said they was send it to any result to me in this month. But they haven't spofrom me yet. Well, I'm sure they will do. Let's. Okay, well, let's dive into some classic interview style questions. So I mean, obviously there's no way of being able to say if they're absolusure what they will ask you about. But there are the typical questions, which is sort of, what's your favorite subject? What do you want to do when you grow up? What books have you been reading recently? What's your experience of the uk been like kind of chitchatty questions? They might also give you some particularly for something like math so that I can imagine they might throw a few maths problems your way. But again, there's no there's no real way of preparing for that. And you're very good at matths. So I'm not I'm not too worried about that. So what we'll focus on is just trying to build up sort of interesting, articulate answers for for some of the basic questions. And you might find that in having created these more fleshed answers, you're then able to weave certain sentences from those into other questions that they might ask, which we couldn't have prepared for. So let's start off nice and simple. And we're just going to try and build this up gradually. There's no pressure to say anything you know that's particularly fascinating to begin with. What is your favorite subject, Peter, and why? Chemistry chemistry, okay. And why do you like chemistry? Yes, I like to do the practical. Okay, so Yeah so I enjoy. But practical how do you what do you say that I enjoy doing the practical do you call them the practiticals or I enjoy enjoy practical chemistry. Any particular experiments with which come to mind? They've have been particularly thrilling magnesium holding a Bunce and burn it to mine idea that you Yeah and actually I remember last was trying to do it when I do the tifaction experiment, a titration experiment my because I've forgotten all my chemistry. What is titration again? Is it a form of filtration? Have I got that completely wrong? No, it's not filtration. But Yeah, honestly is completely wrong. And titration is kind of used the Aland at the base in the assets and dissolve together and try to work out when how much of the accan Mecan react with the base. And Yeah it talks about the accurity. It it talks about what I missed that last bit. Okay, accurate. Yeah accuracy. Oh Yeah that's right. Okay, Yeah this is coming back to me. You're gonna you're gonna have to really help me out with the specificficities of chemistry because I don't teach it and it's been 15 years since I have opened a chemistry textbook. So all of it has gone for me but okay. So I enjoy you could say I enjoy the practical side of chemistry, especially we've got this titration experiment that you remember what I mean, what what about it? I mean, this might sound like a bizarre question, but we're just trying to unpack some interesting detail that you can add. What what about what specifically about you know performing these experiments or or Yeah kind of doing practical chemistry do you enjoy? Do you like you like the feeling of working with your hands? Yeah and when I when I measumeasured those solutions, the volume of the solutions, I really want to make it as accurate as I can. Okay, lovely. Okay. So this is nice stuff. Now we're already in really good territory. So maybe you can add some something about because that's a sort of characteristic I'd say that you have Peter, you're Yeah. You really enjoy being precise and doing things as accurately as you what does precise precise me precise or precision and let's let's keep these define these words if you're gonna to use it so precise is about accuracy. If you are precise, you're an accurate person. You're right. Okay. If you're precise, you're accurate. So I enjoy the practical side of chemistry, especially I'm someone. That has you know a deep appreciation. People precision Yeah appreciation a respect for let's let's you let's actually make sure that we're using words that you would use so if you if you if it feels more natural to say respectful we can we can use that instead or appreciation for precision or accuracy again, whhever whichever you feel like it's gonna to come more naturally and again, this is not we're not learning a script here. We're just giving you some some ideas stuff. It's saying e stuff like that. Yeah you know bringing it back to you and and using the opportunity of the question to say something which is going to make them go, huh? He seems like a really hardworking, impressive individual is a great thing. In the same way that it's a great thing in a job interview to say, you know I worked at this company where I really had to learn how to manage a team. And it's something that came naturally to me because I'm I'm a people person. I'm an extrovert. I love you know talking to and being around people, but I really you know got good at managing at that company. You know whatever I'm waffling on, but you get you get the point. So I'm someone that has a deep respect or appreciation to precision or accuracy. And and this might be again, a good time to sort of veer off into your anecdote about titration, if that's the best. Is that the best example yousay you can think of to demonstrate why your appreciation for accuracy means that you like practical chemistry? Are there other types of experiments that are coming to mind? Not yet. I'm still thinking about that. Okay. So we can maybe you're going to have to really help me on this one. So you so I recently we recently. What would you say? We didn't do titration. We do the other thing. So. Do the other scene we recently do some practical ways mmm. Well the sp maybe the Crystal cridelightzation of copper ate ate Yeah Yeah whichever. I wasn't saying let's not do titration, but just whichever you feel like you can speak most fluently about I mean what you were saying about titration. So this why it's all right crystallization of casold day. But titration is a little more advanced. Am I wrong in thinking that? You think is no wrong, I think is Yeah tistration tion maybe more Yeah so maybe that's the more impressive one to go for. So let's just keep this saying. We recently did titration, not spelling that right, titration, good titration of. Of four of solving solving. Oh, this of important and they forget honestly. Okay, well, let's let's look it up. So titration. Practical chemistry. Is one of them is hyhydrochlorine chlorine hydrochloric acids? Yeah comment like pattration. You know, sailing with. That high Yeah 13 high rates. So see, okay, God, I don't remember any of this. So funny how quickly you figure everything. Okay? So we recently. Explode. The titration practical method in class Yeah and. I loved. The level of detail I loved feeling Yeah the level of detail that I was able answer. Two. And I also like to see when the color change of the indicator when when when this the solution suddenly suddenly react neutral or right because it's that so it's the idea that you're have it correct. I'm probably going to get this wrong, but just so that I can write this thing better, you've got an acid or you've got an alkaline and you're adding, okay. So are you adding just same bit? Yeah but are you adding are you adding a small amount? So if you have an acid, you're adding small amounts of an alkaline to that acid and measuring the point at which it becomes neutral or becomes a sp sp swap there a swap the bases on these and the alkalines and the bases underneright. Okay, okay. Got you got you got so I loved feeling the level of detail that I was able to apply in carefully. Measuring. The amount of hydrochloric acid was it? I think so because it is asid, right? Hold chlorcaid, maybe you can check it is sait is asyeah, I think don't need check because it will makes make water and the other stuff sili, think, right. That I added, I do need to put the solution to the base benneath or something. In order to determine. The exact moments at which wait, we did you do something because you write me? Oh Yeah, I just thank you. Determine the exact moment at which the valost. It's alkaline ph or something. No when wise react I which the base s reacdoes that make sense? Yeah, Yeah, it makes sense. All right. So that's something again, this is not a script. You know much more chemistry than I do. I'm not the chemistry expert here. So if there's if you feel like you can add more detail to this and dive deeper. Fantastic. What else is there any any other? What about what about the the sort of practical use of chemistry in the real world? Does that does that interest you at all? Are you interested in sort of pharmaceutical drugs or in you know manufacturing certain materials? Is there any beyond the classroom? Is there any reason that you find chemistry to be interesting? No, that's I have to regard something to say. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah but it's worth it's worth answer this question. Yeah, it's a big question. Have it. Do you have any sort of career ambitions, Peter? Is there any line of work that youparticularly like to go into or that your parents are pushing you towards? Is probably more likely. The test shows that well, I'm talented in doing some engineering job, something like that. And I'm not really quite sure. Hmm. Is there any particular engineering job that youlike to get into more than others? Metanic or metanic or Chemical Physics and country physics and industry, but and and okay, all right. Okay. But this is all still very much an academic interest. It's not that you want to design cars or airplanes or there's no there's no do you have any hobbies or interests like that? Not into cars, not into game planes. Yeah, I'm more not designed games, but I would like to obtain games. Are you like playing games? Okay. Yeah. Can't it can't be a career. No, I guess some people do manage, don't they? Some people manage to act. Yeah. But amazing, some people do that. But only maybe, but only maybe about almost 2% of people can can be a professional game. No, I don't. I'm not I'm not recommending it at all. Just to be clear piece. I think it's I think it's probably quite a sad existence as well because it's part of playing games is being able to like escape your reality. But if that becomes your reality, if that's what you are, just a gamer, it I think it would be less fun, surely. Maybe I've got that wrong, but that's my hunch. And also, I remember playing, I remember binging playing like Grand Theft Auto and stuff when I was Young. And I would just feel awful after a certain point, after you've been playing for like seven hours straight, you just feel you feel like a dirty human being. Do you get that? The shame that kicks up. But I don't really feel that, but I can. I know what you feel. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. Okay. Well, the gaming, because everyone likes gaming, is probably not the best thing to mention in the interview. I'm trying to see if there's anything more that I can say. No, probably not. Is there anything new? I will send you engineering, maybe I was hanyou. I just said I just sat in my last interview. Yeah, okay. Well maybe you know I think it's very honest and honest is always recommended. Well, it's sort of it's it's not honesty in the way that you say. I love the playing video games and eating crisps, which is obviously for everyone, but it's sort of bad. Just there you go. No, it's normal. You've had to that's all you've had to eat today. But I don't really like this one. Doritos I don't really like you don't like any but you don't like the chilchili heat wave dorritos the red ones no I know three us before it is it's the second time not to be fair do you do you have that thing though because I with the Yeah go on. Sorry. Yeah, I bought it before half ten. So it's about a month ago. I bought it. I mean, a lot a lot of the students that I teach from China and from Hong Kong say that the sweets and the crisps and like food that you can buy and news agents here is just absolutely rubbish compared to the quality of sweets and crisps and stuff like that in China. Do you do you feel like that? Do you miss all of the snacks in China? I mean, instead of some flavors of crisps and some flavors of the chocolate and the sweets I think it's much better much better in China but not more the food that not not no food not not the food interesting. Very interesting. Well Yeah, I really like the Shere. Oh, you okay, you prefer the sweets in the uk, but you think the food in China is better? Did I understand hot foods in China? Okay, interesting. I've not heard that before. I normally hear the other way about. Well, I don't I never hear students saying they're like any, why do people in uk? Why do people say sweet in the uk? It's very bad. Yeah, I don't know. That's what I just hear. Not that it's bad, but that it's just way, way, way, way better in China. That's why I always hear that's what students otherwise otherwise my mom and I both seem God, the uk has the best brethe best, right? Yes. Yeah we just seem like babbecause in China. Yeah we can't by the hot kind of cooked, right? China. Yeah Yeah, that that is nice. That is nice. So back to this question. I was sort of thinking, maybe you can say like I'm still relatively Young, although you don't need to say that. You can say, I'm still figuring out relayoung. I'm still figuring out what I want to do. Yeah. As as a as a professional ally, well, I want what I would like to do professionally, should say what I would like to do professionally, but I've always felt felt. Curious or intrigued, if you like, by the idea of chemical engineering. Yeah, that would be that would be a great thing to add on the chemistry front. Ts. Yeah, and maybe you could say in so I've always felt an impulse. To get as good subject jects. As I possibly can something like that. Okay. We just like I got a question, could we just finish as 3:30, if that is possible because I'm really, really hungry. So we one hour okay I see I see Yeah Yeah sure I'll notify the the agency of that sure ask my ask my tshe can. Yeah say that, then I know. Okay, okay, but I'm really really hungry and ask to sure, sure, sure. Okay, so that's that's a nice that's a nice kind of fleshed out answer that you can give for what your favorite subject is. Again, none of this is a script, but it's just things that you can you can think about adding to your answers so that you're not you're not going, I like chemistry because it's just fun. I like doing you know I like doing the practical and then just finding us up with nothing more to say. So if you can keep sort of topping it with interesting details. So are you reading any books? Any interesting books? Of course, your generation don't read anymore, so I don't I don't even know if they ask this question to be honest. Do you do you read or do you know anyone that reads? I read before but just before coming to uk okay, Yeah it's much harder to read in English Yeah because I don't really understand the English book, right? Man? So look, so say that again. Be honest about it. So I'm I'm I used to read. A lot in China. When I was living in China. I still feel like I'm. Working on getting my English. Up to the points. At which I'd enjoy. Reading an English novel. Yeah or a book written in the book. So. What were the kinds of books that you used to read and when you were living in China? Most of the time. Oh. Wait, I written history to be honest. Change history on history comics. Okay. Some comics about history. It's not comics too, right? Talk about any life stuff. It's about history. And I learned I learned so much in in that and I gait successfully well in my history test in China and I got the top one or of the history in my Yeah in my in my class. I okay. And this is just exactly, it's like tick, tick, tick. That is exactly the sort of thing that you want to be saying. I mean, actually, my partner is reading a historical comic called mouse, the book, this one. Have you read that one? No, I mean the Chinese Chinese history book. Yeah Yeah Yeah but I thought maybe it was translated to Chinese. Okay, it's not chaokay so used to being in still as historical comics. I've learned so much about history. Through. My reading and what was the last thing you said there was a history testing class that you came top in there history just before just before I came to uk. I mean it's an end of year test Yeah okay great so you can say I would often on top of the class and my end of year tests has make it plural why not end of your history tests back in China? That's a lovely answer. It's honest, but also you're shoving off. It doesn't feel contrived. I really, really like that. So let's see if we can do one more. And then we'll we'll call it a day. What's your favorite pastime? I'll poit. And it can't be gaining. Well. It's going to be playing sports instead of gaming. What is left? We can't have gaming. What else is okay? What sport do you like? Two main spots for me and those are badminton and table tennis. Wow, very nice. But telus are not football. I know it's going to say those. That's a very a very Chinese answer. I did my best friend actually Yeah my best friend is not Chinese, but he's Malaysian and he was incredible at badminton. I didn't realize that it was such a it's like culturally so important as a sport badminton. But Yeah, obviously I never think about that. The football can be so popular. I really it really football is really popular so interesting, I didn't know why I just wonder why wonder how I wonder. Okay. All right. So Yeah, I like the way that you phrased that that would have to be my playing one of my two favorite sports. Badminor. Table tennis. Any other interesting stuff that we can add about these two stuff? You know, a chance to. Show off maybe were you involved in any kind of like school competitions or tournaments or Yeah, I joined the house badminton last note Ted this year and stars officer Yeah. Okay, I'm currently Yeah so and this this is. Nice. This is at Lansing college. Yeah, okay. I'm currently a member of the would you call it the house badminton team? It's based on half Lanin college, right? So is there and there are house competitions where you play Badmington against other houses. Yeah, okay. So Yeah so okay, that's worth that better. So I just recently took parts in the house badminton. Contest at lancing. What did you did you do well in it? No, that's fine, but that's fine. That's funny. Okay, I think it's good to Yeah we try to encourage the people in our house to join us. Did you did you feel like you were were were the people in your house good at badminton? Did you feel like you were better at badminton than I think I need I need to I need to be better and okay, so we tried out a very, very Hawell, but unfortunately. And how badly did you get beaten? Was it? Was it like a thrashing? Did you get? Absolutely. No. No. It is kind of just one step, only one step to go. Oh, you nearly got to the final. Yeah, okay. We didn't we didn't quite. So we've both tried our very best and won a few games. That didn't make the final unfortunate. Which was a shame. That's perfect. You know again, just fleshing out these answers with nice honesty, interesting detail. That's the name of the game. I'm going to let you go, Peter, because I don't want you to starve and we'll keep working on this. We have we have a few you can't do tomorrow. Is that right? Yeah, I got another that much more because I got I'll will guess how exams next week. Okay. All right. Well, like that. That's very important, right? Yeah, of course, of course, of course. I think we do have a few more of these classes though, because it would be good next time to actually get you talking, having prepared a few of these answers. And Yeah, until then, have a wonderful weekend. Peter zzi, hope you have a nice nourishing meal. I'm going to go now. All right, take care. All right, see, I'm going to slide and just read these.
