Two example I was going to say, is it is it starting to feel like that's all you do is exam prep? Was basically for the last few months. Are you ready for something alanddrew? Are you ready for some some other things? When you sit the exams, like when do you sit your like full gcse's in June or may may starting in may? Okay. Itbe great though you'll have the whole summer once you've done those gcsc's, they're the best summers because you won't have to prepare for anything. You'll just be able to have like there's a look, but you're still going get there right today, Henry. We're going to have a look as requested. We're going to have a look at some of these papers just to give us a chance to see, I think, where perhaps more close analysis is needed, what things that we need to think about in here and just sort of help you to get basically as many Marks as as we can, hopefully full Marks for the paper. So we're going to have a look at some of these you might have done so please shout if you're sort of like I've done that paper which can happen but I want to find out what papers for what in here. So I've got them all but they've all come up in like there we go the horses one there we are. That's the one that I want. Okay, so Henry, I know you feel quite confident don't you in your comprehension or do you have like certain questions that you still feel aren't as good as they could be or are parts of the text that you still don't feel make much sense? All the exam techniques on what they ask for. Okay, so what what exactly they want out of those answers? Okay, we're gonna we're gonna just walk through anything and then we'll we'll go through but first of all, before we do, I just want to talk to you some sort of your language and and structure. So if I said to you, language features, what kind of things are you looking for? Or if I'm talking about language, I don't Yeah what am I talking about when I say to you, I want to find, I want you to find something about language in this question. What am I asking for? So to give you an example, like metaphor, like literature, phrases called devices, use of search and use of words, repetition. Rain. Anything else? No. So home is also part of it. Atmosphere. Yeah. We're looking at perspectives in the sense of like use of pronouns. We're looking at semantic fields. Are there words that are closely related to each other? Language can also be sort of like what someone sort of says in a dialogue as well. That's obviously also structure, but it's what's said in a dialogue. We've also got things like obviously your metaphors, your similes, your pathetic fallacy, your rule of three, your writghtly said repetition. We also want to think about hyperbole. We want to think about word classes. You get more Marks if you're able to tell if us if it's a verb or a nwn or an adjective or an adverb. Also things like imperative verbs, auxiliary works verbs. We'll also get you Marks as well. And it's also understanding the placement of words. Why are they in that particular sentence? Why does that sentence also have maybe juxtaposition? What are the connotations of certain words and phrases and what implications does that have? Then thinking about structure, what kind of things am I looking at for structure? For structure, how they are phrased, how each sentence is put in the paragraph, how these paragraphs are placed, what's the order of the event? Yes. What's the order of events? Anything else? Sentence length sentence length yes, excellent. That's it. Okay. We also want things like parent thesis. Do you know what I mean by parent thesis is? Yeah, great. So thon ecclesis will come into your structure. You're also going to have, yes, as you said, sentence lens. It's also going to be brackets. It's also going to be things like exposition. Do you know what I mean by exposition? No. So exposition is when we see a picture on the like a whole scale of a picture. So that could be in the beginning of the story I've decided to give you that we're in a great big, massive forest. And then zooming in would be me maybe focusing on a particular character that is also structure. Okay? Listing obviously of all the three can come underneath here. Repetition can come underneath here. Rhetorical questions are also part of structure. And also sometimes with structure, it's simply about the way that a piece has been put together. And kind of like its themes, in some ways also appear themes. We can also have motifs, symbolism. So as you can see, so many things that we can actually kind of gain from our structure and from our language. Okay, so let's try and put all of that into practice. I don't want the gift. The horses. Okay, so let's read through the horses which is text text a it great. So Henry, do you want to read through that and then let me know when you've read it or feel free to read it around. Yeah, finished. Amazing. Right? Let's have look at this first question and these first ones should feel super, super easy. So what is the other name for Epheus according to paragraph one? Thomas? Yeah, easy bealems squzy donuse your own words to explain what the text means by forest dweller. Creatures that live in the forest. Only faintly resembled. Which resembled the horses. What do you mean by only faintly? Was only like I said. There are only few similarities. Yeah mashbana similarities to the horses. Yeah, excellent. Okay, reread paragraph tube. These early prototype tame give two of the main ways in which horses were used by humans in the past. Transportations and. What was so give too memory to little humans, you by used by humans in the past. That was paragraph two. Leisure and foot so that's a favoring it modern day. So when you're looking at here, so inspiration Yeah Yeah for inspiration. Perfect. Yeah inspiration. It was sneaky. It was hidden in there. Reread paragraph three scientists identified proximity identified two reasons why scientists researching horse domestication that iba might have been the first place where horses were tamed. I think that should say Siberia. And it's kind of like taking it off the I know it is Siberia. There's there are many depictions of mentioned horses as Cabart there, along with. Many other domesticated adults. Fabulous. Okay, so four Marks on those. So we read paragraphs 45, explain why scientists first thought bote was the most likely place that horses were first tamed by humans. So there were evidence that mouthpieces may have damage to the horse's Keith. There's pony shards containing traces of mares milk. There were structures that could have been kept four horses. Great, not your three Marks. Well done. Explain why scientists now no longer believe that modern domestic horses originated from botaine. There evidence elwhere that indicates horses may have been domesticated independently by other groups. They analyzed the dna of both horses, and they were not the origin of modern horses. Hello. I don't know. I'm trying to find another one, but. Yeah I mean, there isn't really one in there. First thing though, there was no way to confirm this. So this one would also want you because it's between 45. And the other answer that you've also got here is it says here Botan was seen as the most likely place. The horses were first tathough. There was no way to confirm this. To be sure, these are the horses that spread around the world. So you could also have that as well. This idea of it was also there was also there was also a lack of evidence to suggest, Yeah but the first sentence we wrote just proved that wrong. Correct? It is. So you can probably you could switch this around, but that's essentially what I'm looking for. Yeah so you could just put that into the top. But Yeah, I think that would bone that would be the only other one. The only other thing that you could really talk about in that one is that they were smaller species, naturally prone prone to dental issues is another option you've got in that one as well. Yeah so like I say, sometimes with these questions, especially with the three markers, sometimes they are just asking you to sort of split some of the information that's in these sentences up, which is very silly. Sometimes you think maybe that should just be a two marker, but Yeah, I mean, like I say, you either put that sort of this fact at the top of that question or go with the dental issues and the small species as part of that answer. Okay, reread paragraph six. Why does the writer use the word explosive rather than the word increase that describe the development of horse based transport? Because horse space horse space transport happened. Inishort duration of time and in multiple areas. But here, it really wants you to understand why explosive, again, now could use increase for that. But why have I used explosive? Believe. Give it more impact. Yeah. And why do you think explosive is more impactful? A stronger word, yes. Think about what exploded actually means. So what they're always asking for you in these ideas is if I was to sort, if I'm going to take increase, so if I was to use you know the right uses increase rather than gets larger because increase feels like something that happens year on year and is constantly building, whereas gets larger. Feels as if it has an enpoint. So what is it about explosive that is different to using increase? Happened all of a sudden. It happened suddenly, and the impact was pretty large. Excellent. Yes, it's this idea. So use of explosion gives us the sense. It happened immediately. And overnight and could not be controlled, whereas increase makes it feel like a steady stream. Or a gradual build. Compared to something happening overnight. Yeah. So that's what they're really looking for in that question. Okay. Because what you've answered is fine, but it's because it's asking about this word of explosion. Explain what the writer suggests about horses in the phrase elegant living machines powered only by grass. Oh. Describes horses as. Grace is sophisticated. Sophisticated. Features that were that are tained by us into living machines and. And doing this while only consuming grass. I'd say the bare necessities. And what does grass sort of allude to here? I don't know. So here we're talking about nature, aren't we? So when we're talking about something like plants or trees or grass or something, we're talking about the natural elements. So you've got this idea of this sophisticated creature that, as you say, is sort of living as a machine because of because we've tamed them by humans, but ultimately they're living through nature, right? They're costing you nothing really. Yeah. Yeah. So they're a benefit to us. So you can have some like you know even the connotation of grass has a natural feeling and therefore shows that they are costing humans nothing. I mean, that's a very broad for because obviously you've got shoes and all the rest of it. But in terms of this, sometimes you want to think about those connotations, where perhaps do we get the idea of nature, or where do we get this idea of something brute force or brutal machine has a feeling in it, doesn't it, that it's it's got a purpose. But not only that that it's being worked. It's being worked really hard. You know I suppose in some aspects it does ask us to question the article a little bit about whether it's ethical in some ways. Really well done. Some really strong answers. I think what it is here is, just like I say with that explosive one, it's thinking more about what the word means. That's where you're gonna to get those Marks. What does that imply? What's that connotation? Okay, so these now get a little bit more so we're going to have a look at this question too with a special foal foul, right? There are as many ways to say this word. You can say fooul and you can say foul fowl is kind of like a bad taste in your mouth fool Yeah is a baby horse, but sometimes you will also hear fooul for a baby horse. It's very complicated sometimes done if we're in certain regions. So Yeah foof valves. So according to text b, what the arguments against cloning being the best way protect to protect endangered species such as the tacky horse? Use continuous writing, not note form, and use your own words as far as possible. Your summary should not be more than 120 words. It's about two paragraphs, two to three paragraphs. Okay, so have a read through this text and then we'll make some notes before you attempt this. Amazing, right? Let's have a look at this question then. So what kind of things do you think youwant to talk about within this question? But the benefits and the negatives of cloloning. And what are those more negative then? Okay. So what are these what kind of things are you going to be picking out to talk about? Tampering with nature creates genetic errors. Unsuccessful cloning. Yeah. You need sell samples. Reduce gpull. Any positives what any positives you're going to talk about? Can keep the species from extinction. Anything else that's the only positive we've got about clothing, which is fair enough. Okay, brilliant. Right. Let's give this a go. Showing behind me. So 120 words, ten Marks are available for reading and up to five Marks for writing. So all that means really is making sure that you've obviously got the right elements over and not know if use your own words as far as possible. Obviously you can quote, you can use aspects from the text. Okay, Henry, whenever you're ready, you can start answering the question. Latis, right on the you can run the board. Do you want a little bit more? You've got you should have enough space in Oh, I can't. Oh, I know. So as we'll let you do that as youhave to go straight over into here or you're more than welcome to do it like in there, if that. I can write it's okay. I can write on this, and then I just copy and paste it. How would I structure it though, as there's only one benefit? So here I would probably it depends what youlike to do. I would probably decide that I would talk about the negatives first, and I would probably then say, you know, however, there are a few benefits to the situation, and then I would talk about the benefit to it. It's okay if it's more heavy handed to the other side because it says, what are the arguments against cloning being the best way to protect? Because actually this is mostly about being against anyway. So you're only really offering the positive there as a bit of a counter argument for yourself. You have indeed. They use a colon here. Yes, you can. So brings money. Yes, you can. And then I can just do another poand, then then see another yes, you got another point to another motion in there yet. Great, I'm pressing my out. There isn't a boy. Some reason, okay, now I pressed my space bar and nothing happened. You're like, why is it no work? G. Don't have enough space here. See everybody here. She's taken over. I think I can stop it, then just add it further. Yeah. So cloning brings many problems, such as unsuccessful cloning, resulting in the cloned creature dying at Young ages. Other people dislike the fact that are about tampering with nature and requires taking cell samples from the original animal, which is sometimes difficult to obtain. Furthermore, Yeah, I would say that it's okay. So if you're see, basically that will not be 120 words. So if you're just, it's so youneed to make more what it is, you need to expand your answers a little bit. So what you want to be careful of so like 120 words, that's going to be one, two, three, four, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 20, one, two, two, five, two, six, three, seven, 28, two, nine, 33, one, 30, 23453 6:30I'm 40 okay, so you've got 40 words in there at the moment. If you then give yourself that positive which isn't probably gonna to give you much, you're only gonna to ever reach sort of 60 so you're gonna to be 40 words or so out so you have to try and build these answers a little bit. So it's sort of like cloning brings many problems such as unsuccessful cloning. Okay, so let's go to that moment in the text. So what does it say in the article? So repeated question, Yeah, I can. So at the moment we need to extend this. You're going to be 40 word short, probably more than that because if you're just gonna to go straight into a positive here, Yeah, then you're not gonna to have enough. So you've got to make sure each point is expanded. At the moment you're sort of making a list. These are the reasons. Lovely. But here it's saying according to text b, what are the arguments against cloning being the best way to protect endangered speeches such as the tacky horse? So here you've got to look at each point that you're making. So this one, you're saying your first bit one is the fact that it's unsuccessful. Okay. So what does it say in the text about being unsuccessful? Is that a successful cloning leads to Young deaths? Okay, so let's go through this festival. So you've got this. Before that, fkl cloning had only successfully produced a single animal of such species, alongside many failed attempts. Okay, so it's been so you've also got this. And then where have you've got your Young one in the last paragraph. So in the last one, a compononis bleach about tempering with nature. Some places yers create ates genetic errors, admitting all attempts of clothing that have been successful in any kinds of endanthat did die Young. Plus, even if he remains healthy, ohe would be recently eainto the wild. Okay, so there's more to this than meets the eye. So again, here and now, I'm going to take my two bits of information about unsuccessful cliing. So cloning brings many problems and challenges. Well, first of all, actually, Yeah, no. And let's put, let's keep with what you've got. Learning brings many problems and challenges such as unsuccessful cloning. These have been seen, these have been seen in many animals. That have been successfully cloned. Die Young. And we want to put that into quotations because that's from the text die Young. And even those that have remained. Have not made it into the wild. Posing the question on why it's even worth trying equally. Equally, while cloning has been successful for small projects, it has not been used for for a single endangered species. With proof that many failed attempts. Okay. So what I've now taken said like not all attempts at cony have been successful at early their clones of endangered animals. So yes, if cloning had only successfully produced a single animal, Oh yes, yes. Of such species long side, many of those. Anyway, what I'm trying to show here, you'll put the content in in a second is at the moment you're making you're making very sweeping statements. You're kind of going playing brings many problems, such as insible cloning, resulting in creatures dying, resulting in this, resulting in that you've given us everything, whereas now this has now become this. So you need to expand what that answer is because otherwise you're just listening sting to us. It's kind of like you've ended up with only implicit information. What they're checking here is, do you understand the explicit that's being put around it, which is why you want it in your own words? Do you know that it's in multiple factors within this? It talks about failed attempts. It talks about the dying. It talks about the fact that if they are healthy, they don't even make it out into the world. So it's kind of huntless. It doesn't make any sense for anyone. That's why people are against it. Why are people against tampering with nature? What are people's feelings about that? What is it that they don't like taking cell samples from the original animal, which is difficult to obtain? Why? What does it tell us? Why is it difficult to obtain it? Because the problem is otherwise you're stuck. You're stuck at 40 words and you've given me everything. So we want you to expand it. So taking this, I'll rephrase obviously the bit about the only the single aliement now, but I want you to try and extend this one about tampering with nature. How can you make this a more expansive answer? Even though it's I've remained, I've not made it into the while posting the question on why it's even more singling this been amount to get it. Equally, while cloning has been successful for successful for haokay single animal, it. It has yet. To be used on endangered. Species and has many failed. There we go. Great. Where is the tampering nature part? Again, the tampering is in here, isn't it? So we've got opponents fleleed, but tampering with nature, some claim genetics are correct, obviously not what ensive cloing are being successful. And I think there's also many of all these just twelve amps cut from a naout in resulting in reduced gene poof wild horses here. So we've also got here there's any other concerns like is in tampering or I suppose people's grievance with it. Although we are not distracting attention as critics argue, so is this environmental action? But is it the wrong route to go down? Is it attracting because critics think that it's distracting from the attention needed to save the animals in existence already? Mm mm. Yet this is much better. Jeans is double Yeah G E E G E N E. Did they copy that then? Yeah, perfect. Like you can see it's already making a difference. Okay. And then your other one was about the dna itself, wasn't it? And the difficulty of the dna, yes, like the that costs a lot for the production. Yes. So again, expand. That's quite a few things that are difficult. So the ability to do it is difficult. So cost getting dna Yeah again, expand that answer out a little bit. Is there another connecting word for that? So we could have here endangered species of mani would say take out further thermore. And I would say so many failed attempts. Some some of the people equally dislike the tampering with nature. That could be quite good. And then you could use further more down here then Yeah Yeah great. Some other people equally dislike the fact tampering with nature as cloning is producis producing an identical horse with the exact same genes. Furthermore, obviously, Furthermore, getting the dna is difficult. I think I can add it with many failed attempts as it costs a lot and even many fails. Yeah, Yeah, exactly. So it doesn't even feel like it's worth the money that they're spending on it, isn't it? Then write the process, or should I just ignore? Furthermore, each e requires a costly process. No, write the process. Remember, we've got 120 words to fill out. Definitely write the process. So show off in front of the examiners. Look how much I know about this text. Thank you very much. Furthermore, each cle requires a costly process taking dna samples from the original animal. And I'd also say usyou combines it with very costly equipment because it talks about technology a lot as well, doesn't it? Yeah policy process, policy equipment and process. Taking dna samples from the original sionanimal and doing what with it? It heard you both guaranteed again so guarananteed. Like that. It's got got a bit of a sign on you in it, guaranteed, but we don't say it. In have you ever seen the video where they take the Mickey out of how things are spelled? Anyway, they're like, boom, but now we say we can't say coom, we've got to say comb. And I'm like, it's so, isn't it? Amazing. Okay, so cleaning upbrings, you can already see the difference, right? Anyway, you can see it with how much you've got here already. So you've got cloning brings to read the positive points. I was going to say you probably haven't it, but maybe just because you can show that there's a counter argument in there. But let's have a look at the what we've got so far. Cloning brings many problems and challenges such as unsuccessful planing. These have been seen in many animals that have successfully cloned dayoung and even those that have remained and not made it into the wild, posing the question on why it's even worth trying. Equally, while cleanhas been successful for a single element is yet to be used on endangered species and has many failed attempts. Furthermore, each clone requires a costly equipment and process of taking dna samples of the original animal, transferring it to an egg of the same species, and growing the embryo before it's transplanted. With all these steps, it's still not guaranteed to be successful. Some of the people equally dislike the fact that cloning is tampering with nature as clones, producing our identical horse with the exact same genes. And I feel like we need another sentence, like to round it all up. So to sort of round link back to that question. Therefore, the arguments against cloning. Therefore, cloning is not the best way to protect animals as as the article or strongly that we should protect endangered species instead, or something like that. That just gives us that last rounder. While you do that, I'm gonna to do a boring thing of counting words. It's not the best way to. What could I say? Therefore, therefore need for environmental Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. Further reinforcing the need of environmental action, not distracting attention. So I think this is kind of like critics want people to have that environmental thing, don't they? Yes. I. Yes, you'll be sitting on the nose. So there we are. You've managed 120 words. So the thing is, what you've gotten is you you are you are fully capable of finding this information. The information wasn't the difficulty of it. You've read the text. You've understood the text. You've written the things that you need to write. The challenge for you when we need to come back to this question is it's about expanding those points so that you don't just end it with them all in a list. You just want na give us a bit more explanation because otherwise you're not going to get to 120 words. Yeah and this this is some of your best work. And once actually you can see that writing, you're writing really, really well. So I think it's just having that confidence in yourself to do that. Yeah, it will come. Yeah, the more we practice it. But this second attempt, it's it's literally the perfect answer. There's nothing else you could put into here. But like this is it. And you're right. I don't think it now needs the positive in it because you've given us everything that we need for all this, the against document. And while denany questions on that, I mean, this first section, I mean, youfly through I mean, youhave no problems in this first section at all. I mean, the only thing that I would say in here is just be mindful if it's asking for you for a word, really think about what that word means and then you'll be fine that this, I mean, Yeah, I mean, truthfully say you had have got this slightly wrong. I mean, you would have been looking at 18 out of 20. But if yougo in and that you've got, I mean, you've got full Marks. I mean I don't section a is excellent and section b is there, but the reality is a section b just needs you to expand that answer slightly. It's 15Marks. Your first answer would have probably, if I'm really truthful, would you would you got you seven, six or seven? Whereas this answer is gonna to get you upwards of sort of 14 out of 15, 15 out of 15. Yeah. So that's going to make it much, much better. So we'll come back to it. We'll perhaps do a text b again just to give you that practice because we found looking to improve on, Hey, have you got something nice for weekend? Probably some rest. I'm going to start the Marks next week. Yes, please rest. It's really important even when you're revising to rest. Yeah, have a wonderful weekend. Finally, me.
