Hi, how are you? Good good. New homework. Oh. Why not? What have you been busy doing? Plus be busy, busy, busy boy. Okay. Next lesson in the grammar punctuation stuff, we're going to be looking at inverted commas. So inverted commas, Aiden, are it's just another name for speech Marks. You know what speech Marks are? Yeah. Yeah so inverted commas is the same thing you know like this Yeah either side. So there's two places where we should put inverted commas when we're writing direct speech. They're obviously at the start of the speech. You let me know when you're ready, Aiden. I'm ready. You're ready. So at the start of the speech and at the end of the speech, Yeah so we need to open with those two little dash lines or you can just use one as well. It just as long as you're consistent and obviously close them as well. So it says, imagine that inverted commas are like hands. They hold within them only the words which are being spoken. So like what's the matadina said? Said d, you know, we don't say the said part, do we? So we don't put our commas around that. Like if we were to, you know, I don't get at this. Do I aided? How are you today? Ask Lily. You know, I don't say that part, do I? So we don't need to put that part in the, in the commas. What are you doing with those headphones? Do you need to, do you need to plug them in or something? Are you okay? Just like. Making things. So d Oh okay, why don't you turn the volume down? Turn. So there are two places as well where other forms of punctuation are needed when writing direct speech. So it says you need to end the speaking with a comma, a question mark if it's a question, or an exclamation mark if it's an exclamation, and you need to finish your sentence with a full stop. Okay. And this part, the said part, is what we call a reporting clause. But it's quite boring just to use the word said, isn't it? We want to try and use more interesting words. Could you read these examples for me down here, Raden? What's the matter? Dinner? Ask, what's the matter dinner? With birwhat's the matter dinner? A dirswhat's the matter dinner shall it sit? Good, so we've got asked, whispered, utttered or shouted. This personal shis. So here we have a picture showing a conversation, and I want you to have a go at writing it, writing out what she said. I'll show you an example first. So let's say my example has somebody. Maybe I'll type, maybe I'll type that. Hang on, Aiden, I just need to leave and come back because my keybod's not working. So I will write this out as speech. I could do it a few different ways. It's happened again. What is very long? There we go. Do it like this, I could say. Oh my goodness, why isn't it worth it? I could say. I could say. So I can write it a few different ways. Yeah but these are all correct. Doesn't really matter which way you do it as long as you're using the correct skills, obviously. Okay. So can you have a go with the one underneath for me? Maden, I've already given you the picture. You need to do the writing. Can you see you already have the picture? You need to do this part, the writing part. We need to write all of those three. No, no, no, just I was just showing you the different ways. Okay, so Amina at Amina asks, so Amina personnel. Can you come and help me send an email? Good, just don't need an e on the end. Or you could have done it like this, a Amina asked to el. Can you come and help me send an email? You could have changed it like that because that's kind of what she says in there, but that's fine. Okay, very good. Okay. Getting a little bit trickier now. So remember here, we've got two speakers. This is really important. It says when we have more than one speaker, remember to start a new line for each new speaker. That way it's really clear for the reader when a new person to start speaking. You're doing the same thing again, adent. You're writing out this conversation from the picture. Okay, only thing we need to think about here is could treat te those Jessica Jessica's classroom. Asked Mr. Miller. No problem, sir, says max. One capital letter for max. Yeah and we can't put two full stops in one sentence. Aiden, so what do you think we need to do with this? Full stop here? It. Not an exclamation mark. You can use something else instead that doesn't have to be an exclamation. We can use a comma. So just showing it's just a normal sentence. We just use a comma. Yeah if this part comes after it. Okay. Okay, good. Okay, this time three people speaking. And don't forget your comma before the speech to introduce it. Yeah, okay, good. Well done. Hey, this time you've been given a picture, but you have to decide what you think they're saying to each other and write out the conversation. So you've got two frogs here and one of them is taking a picture of the other frogs. So what conversations do you think you're having? I'm just gonna na quickly run to the bathroom maiden whilst you get started on that and pay. Can you take a picture to me? Emily said, sure. Am I not okay? Good. Very good. Okay, next one. I want you to do it the other way around. So I don't want you to say, says first, can you try and put that at the end this time? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And can you help me? Is that Carry, Carry this bag? So that's like this. Carry these bags? Yeah. Asked Reggie. Yay. I only got one. I can help you, says Emily. Good. Well, I'm remembering that comma there. That's really good. So here you have some sentences you need to correct the mistakes for the punctuation. Oh, a little bit still missing on there. Good great Lesme. Okay, little quiz. Says, is this speech puntuated correctly? Okay. So what do you think is incorrect? Like you're saying something the speech market is not under, said James. It's been Sunday. Good. Very good. Very good. It should be moving after Sunday, shouldn't it? Okay. What's about this one? Yeah, that one's good, isn't it? What about this one? Oops. It is not correct. Is it good? So what needs correcting? Adden, what's missing? Yeah, we haven't got any of the beach Marks. Good. Next one. What's this one missing? 嗯,中了。Yeah, well done. A missing that comma at the end. Very good. Okay, what do you think is wrong? There no to letter after the. That's actually okay. That's fine. We don't need capital letter for that. Okay? To have it lower. Yeah, good. Okay. What's about this one? Yeah, good. That was correct. Okay, we're done. We'll just do a couple of these tasks to finish. Can I give you the pen? The woman's come. You don't all don't have comma Yeah so you need to add them in. It says putting the missing inverted commas in each sentence. So you need to put them in for me. Well, have another little look at that one. Yes, get it. Three, I think you're all correct. Number three, you need to write it out like we did with the other pictures. You need to write out the text with the speech Marks and everything. Yeah. Okay, finish. Oh, you've forgotten your speech mark in the second one. Can you see where's your comma in your speech mark? Yeah, there you go. Perfect, right? Well, donada in, you've done really good today with all of that writing. Let me find cast for your homework. Well, I can do that. Okay, so basically you've got a little picture. You need to do some writing about the picture using your inverted commas for your homework. Okay, Yeah, just remember all those sort of rules that we looked at today when you're using them in your writing. Have a little go. Brilliant. Well done Aiden. You've done super good work today with all that writing. Yeah, well done. Hope you enjoy the rest of your day, the rest of your week. Okay, bye bye. See you next week. Bye. That's a lovely drawing. Bye. Bye bye.
