Hyeah hello o hello George, how are you? Be good. Yeah. What have you done today, George? Have. You been to school happy been playing here, and what did you do in school today? I. What did you learn in school today? Maths, English, science, football, basketball. I, I learned music today, music, can you play the piano, the violin, the drums? What can you do? What do you play an instrument? Yeah, Oh, what instrument do you play? A drum, a egg shaker and. I forgot. That's okay. That's some good, awesome, good instruments. George, not so. I also judge. I can see Mickey Mouse in the background. I love Mickey Mouse. I can see Mickey Mouse there. It's really cool. Hi, Alice. How are you? Find a bit busy, big, give me busy, what have you been busy doing? And I'm been busy for the Chinese and the. The Chinese and math what's your favorite subject, Alice? My favorite Jan is Chinese. Is it and why do you like Chinese? Because I think the stories are great and fun. Oh Yeah, I've heard you do some you learned some great stories in Chinese, don't you? Okay, well, welcome, Alice. Welcome. Welcome. Hi, Jerry. I'll come to you. Mu, how hi Jerry. How are you? Oh, I'm good today. We didn't go to school because they're typhoon. I've heard about this. I've got other students. Have you been safe in the typhoon? Yes. 1818Whoa, I've never seen a typhoon, Jerry. So I'm scared for you. I'm scared, but you're safe. You're at home having chance to play. Yeah how long is the time? I didn't have any chance to play because I need to study, study and study all the you got a study stairway still got a study and have how long has the typhoon been there? Maybe 2012 hours, twelve hours, not twelve hours. It's it's something like it's in the morning. 2:00 it was coming here. And at 8:00 they will go. The tifingers crossed. Okay. We want to send that typhoon away. Britain doesn't get bad weather. We do get heavy storms, but we don't get typhoons or anything. Oh, well, I'm glad you're okay, Jerry. That's all I care about. As long as you're a hi mou, how you were. You're great. You're busy as well. You're as busy as others. This and what have you been up to today? Mimi? I've been doing math all day because I have four class of math and didn't have any Chinese. I very like Chinese. Oh, you like Chinese as well, but you've been doing maths all day. Oh, maths is hard, isn't it? I find Mahard, okay. And mimwho, what's your favorite subject? What's your favorite? It's English and Chinese. English and Chinese like Alice. Okay, I've heard, I have heard. It's a really good subject. Hi, annn. How are you? I'm great. What have you been up to today, Anne? I went to school and I learned things. And what subjects did you do in school today? I learned math, Chinese, English, and. Music like George has been doing music today. Yeah. So there we honor them. Music, there's what instrument do you play? Anne? Open play piano. You play piano. You and George could do a band. He does drums. You could do piano. I do saxophone. We could start abandoning our class. Welderner, hello, your little brother Anne. Yes. Oh, hi, little brother. That made him run. Okay. Well, welcome, welcome, welcome. I am teacher Lisa, and we are going to be doing some debating okay some things we're gonna listen to each other. Big part of debating it does not matter, okay? What the opinion is as long as we have reasons and that's okay all right? We will be allowed to use the Internet for research, okay? You will have time to prepare in this lesson all right? So this is one lesson where someone's gonna to say you can use technology okay? That's part of it. Okay, Jerry, palnett mumu, George and Anne hands of anyone debated before. It does not matter if you have not anyone bajerry debated before. Mumuis debated before. Okay, amazing. When they need your help in a moment then. So Jerry, can you tell us what is a debate? Oh, you're on mute, Jerry. Okay. Debate is is a lot of people talk to each other and Wanit's there is two teams wanting it's disagree and another team is disagree and they will talk in a topic. And debate. Yeah kind of argue the debate. Yeah, well done, Jerry and momu. How do I win my debate yesterday? That is a have the arguing but it have rule rules arguing with rules polite arguing as I like to call it. Yeah well done Jerry at what do we need to do when we are arguing our point? What do we need? Yes we need to have two team one thing is need to say yes and the other team need to say I didn't agree this ideas. Well done. How am I gonna win my argument though? Momu? Do I just say I disagree? I agree. No. And you need to say your reason. Well done. We need reasons because can't say. I just don't think that. I don't think that because firstly, secondly, thirdly, and that's what we're going to be talking about. Weldon muo, Yeah, reason. So Alice to George and Anne, don't worry. If you've never debated, by the end of today, you'll be able to say I can debate because we're gonna to be doing a debate in today's glass already. Okay, go. So for Alice, George and Anne, we're going to watch a lithe video all about debating and we're going to see a little debate here. So here we go. The kids at michahussin school don't have to wear uniforms next term. I think that's cool. I think that's to him. Uniforms give pupils a sense of pride in their school and their appearance. Uniforms are silly. You wouldn't catch me wearing a uniform, but you are wearing a uniform. Your football steas a uniform. Imagine what would happen if football players wore whatever they wanted. It would be total confusion. Even the players wouldn't know who to kick the ball to chaos, and the fans wouldn't know who to support. Oh, I see what you mean. You've scored a known goal. One point for me. But uniforms can be very expensive, and not everyone's parents can afford to buy a new one each term. And kids go out of their uniforms too. And if you rip it, you'll be in trouble. I see what you mean. I've never thought of that. That's a point to me. One, all is a draw. Hold on, even if you didn't have to wear the uniform, youstill have to dress smartly. That's right. You can't go to school looking scrufe. Why not? It isn't a crime, isn't it? You have been accused of going to school looking scruffy. How do you plead guilty? Your brother? But insane. Yippy, that's another point to me. Two de one. How cool. Pupils have to wear uniforms, but teachers don't. That's right. It's not fair. It should be the same rules for everybody. I don't agree. Imagine how silly the teachers would look if they wore uniforms because of the subjects they teach. Look, I' M A History teacher. I'm Napoleon. I'm a Sains teacher. I'm a asteri'm, a geographpher teacher. I'm an explorer. This is silly. Teachers don't have to wear uniforms. That's another point to me. Now it's tutu. I think tutu is a fair result because there are two sides to every argument. Uniforms or no uniforms. The important thing is to look smart, not scruffy or sili. Agree. Hang on, I've changed my mind. What if I can keep this uniform? I'll wear it to school every day. Okay, so let's start here with Alice. So Alice, do you think teachers should wear a uniform? I'd okay. And why do you think, no, they shouldn't wear a uniform? Why do you think they shouldn't, Alice, why do think they shouldn't wear a uniform? Because when they wear a uniform, like they don't like some teachers, they wear the uniform is ugly. So some some bad students will lauto them. So I don't think so. It looks silly. Oh, that's a good argument. So the teachers would look too silly. Okay, let's put that as a reason they would look silly. Okay, momi, you've got your hand up. What do you think? Do you agree with Alice? Do you think no they shouldn't or think yes they should wear a uniform? Do I think teacher couldn't wear uniform? Because the number one is if teacher uniform, it's silly. And number two is if the teacher uniform, then it will be if the teacher go to school and have a class and it's will be not very safe for the children will level at the teacher and if the teacher play with the student, the teacher will rap or is very not safe if the teacher wear silly theylook silly and then they might have to go to a class. And that's gonna to be a really strange thing to do. Okay, boo boo. Well done George. What do you think? Do you think? Yes, I wear a uniform. They should wear a uniform or no? No, they should not wear a uniform. What do you think? Yes, because if teachers don't don't wear uniform and they will get mixed up with other schools. Mixed, yes, with other schools. That's a good point. Yeah, with other schools, so we can actually have them wear uniforms. We know which school they are in. Okay, George, I like this. Okay, another side of the argument. Weldone George. Okay. And who are you picking? Are you you agreing with George? Teachers also need to know which school they're from or know what they look silly. Oh, you want mute tan? You're on mute, tan. We can't hear you. Oh, are you okay? We just need to put your sound on. Hey, there we go. Ri, agree with George, because teachers need to make a model, need to to be a role model. Yeah, if they wear it, the students were okay. Jerry y's gonna be the deciding vote here. I'm really excited. Jerry, are you agreeing with mumu and Alice or are you agreeing with georand annn? George Oh, I didn't see it happening. Okay, why do you think a teacher should wear a uniform? Because if the teacher didn't wear uniform, maybe the like the head teacher won't know that that teacher was his was the teacher who works who work in his his his or her school or and if the teacher didn't wear wear the uniform, that is not fair to shoto the children to students and okay, well done, right. That was amazing. That was amazing. That was a really good answer as well. I wasn't expecting yes to win. I was expecting no to win because I was with Alice and moo but you have convinced me of Walton, George Walton, Anne Walton, jry Walton, Alex Walton and me. U now when I say has ever done a debate, we can all raise our hand now because everybody just did a debate. Every single person just did their first debate is amazing and we've got lots more to be doing today as well. Okay, congratulations on your first debate for anyone. And will it be this any this? Okay, so we said along, we've just done our own argument, okay, we don't need to do this one. Our argument was better was by teachers. So we have a topic, a motion, an idea, a question. We have to say yes, we agree. No, we don't agree. You can be on a team where you may not agree with the side you are on. We sometimes have as a debate on either side. Okay? So just be bear that in mind. Sometimes you might agree with something but you need to disagree because you're on that team. Okay. Two teams agree yes. Disagree? No. You will always have preparation time. Now when we prepare, maybe have a research Yeah use the Internet to help you. Maybe you could find an expert, maybe you can find a percentage to help win your argument. Yeah. Maybe you can ask your parents what they think and use it in your argument. So use this preparation time. You do not just have to think it for yourself. Okay? You can find stuff, but it must be your own words when you're talking. Okay? And we'll build this. So don't worry, you're not expected to get this perfect today. That's why you're taking these lessons. And then we present today, we will be starting with two minutes, one minute, 32 minutes to speak. We will be building your confidence to speak for three minutes. Okay? So that's how long a debate usually is for your speech. We will then rebuttle, you will learn to rebuttle arguments and ask questions. That's why listening to each other is good. Okay? So you'll have a topic. Two teams. Yes. No, you'll have time to prepare, and then you will speak in turns. We want to think critically, logically. We do not argue silliness. Yes, maybe that's it. Yeah. And we want to listen to each other. We might have questions at the end. We might want to ask our fellow teammates so that their point looks sillier than yours. Yeah, I could say Jerry said that teacher should wear uniform. However, if a teacher wears a uniform like students, then they don't look as professional. Yeah. So I can rebuttle you all. I can disagree. A lightly big thing. No personal attacks. Yeah, we do not want Lisa. I don't like your argument because you have funny hair today. Yeah. So we're not being personal to each other, but only talking about the topic. Yes. Jry, you had your hand up. I remember one thing because it's when it's on the class, maybe some bad students will like do something like take his book and look his own book. Didn't look the, didn't look the book. What a teacher was a saying. And teacher can wear the uniform and come, come closer and come closer and catch him. But no, you wouldn't know as the student maybe theylook like everybody else yet, that we could run there. So today's topic, our main topic today, is going to be, is homework a waste of time? Guess what? I have something to help us here today. Before we start our discussion, we to listen to this really carefully because we're gonna be talking, is homework a waste of time? So let's watch this video for the great homework debate. How much is too much and when should it begin? Is kindergarten too soon? A growing group of educators says school shouldn't give elementary age kids any homework. Okay, kice Christine Lazar looks at that debate and what the research is showing. Yeah, let's go. You go ahead and get started this. Hey, if it's sloppy, we're gonna do it again. Is Rayna Furman's least favorite part of the day in her seme valley home. I just don't know if doing all this work and having it be all work all the time is healthy. The full time working mom, a ten year old Logan in eight year old Caleb, says she spends her late afternoons struggling with them to get their homework done. I don't want to say that it's not good to have responsibilities, but I just feel like they can get them elsewhere. Wonderful. First grade teacher Nikki hson at bay laurel elementary in Calabasas thought so, too. So this year she proposed to do away with traditional homework. The kids just need a break. They need time to unwind, just like we do at the end of a long day of work. Hanansen found a plan online called unhomework. It's an outside the box way to get kids to continue their learning at home, and it's up to each family if they want to do all of it, or none at all. The other three first grade teachers have signed on as well. Assignments range from taking an outdoor walk to interviewing a family member. Even pick your favorite song and come up with dance moves to it and teach a friend. And it's something that the kids are excited about. Principal Steve cypress says reaction has been mostly positive for the majority of families. This was a welcome a welcome piece, a welcome eand, much appreciated for some. The question is, is my child missing out on that practice? No, they're not, says educator and homework expert una Hansen. Hansen, a mom to too, has consulted with local schools on their homework policies. We don't have any compelling research to support the kind of homework most elementary school kids are bringing home. Instead, hanansen says, traditional homework in elementary school can cause kids to burn out and dislike school, and it's taking time away from the things that actually do help them grow and develop. You know, having chores, taking care of the family pet, helping with dinner, playing outside and reading for pleasure is the one thing that benefits kids academically, even at a Young age. At lud, the nation's second largest school district, homework is recommended starting in kindergarten. Led's homework policy is ten minutes per grade level per day, four days a week. It's a guideline supported by both the national pta and the National Education Association. Dr. David baka is an administrator of instruction and believes as long as it is an excessive, homework has its benefits. In general, it's reinforcing the learning that took place that day and beginning to teach students responsibility. Over at bay laurel, the first grade teachers report their students are keeping up and complaining less. And Furman says she asked her sons teachers for less homework, and they're still on the honor roll. Christine Lazar, kconine news, Hey, so lots of reasons to like homework, lots of reasons not to. So let's start with Anne. And what do you think? Does homework a waste of time? Or do you think it's a good thing? I think it's a good thing, but we need to learn how to. But we need to learn how to learn and how to play. You always learn that you not learned very good. But if you sometimes learn and sometimes pay, you will learn good and play good. Okay. So you think what we call an a balance you think a balance is needed for homework. So we could put that probably in the yes, it can. It is because we could say it can be if there's not a balance. Yes, so balance is needed. It can be if we only do homework. Okay. Love the annn. That's a great opinion. Fantastic. Pmoving, you had your hand at first. Okay. What do you think? Mumi, agree. Disagree. I have a problem is what is the a, this is waste. Nice question. Mumu, always ask if you don't know a word. Okay, so waste means that, it's not a good thing. Yes. If it's a waste of time, it ruins your time, it takes away. Yeah, it means it shouldn't be done. Yeah. So do you think homework shouldn't be done as a waste of time, or do you think it's a good thing to be doing? I think we need to do homework, but if we do a long time, then we can just got tired. So I think we need to play sometimes and relax sometimes, like hearing you like sonor rest or play games, are all swimming, play basketball. So we're saying mimu that yes, we need to do homework, okay, to practice, but it can be a waste of time if it means we never relax if we're always tired. Okay, there's okay, Jerry, what were you going to say? What do you think? Waste of time. Not a waste of time. It's if the homework was too much, that will waste a lot of time to the child, because child need to when they are small, they need to like take a lot of time with their parents or like go out to have some outdoor activities. Okay, so you kind of think actually always stay home and do a lot of homework and didn't get any relaxed or some like sports love okay, love this idea. So this we're all kind of agreeing here that maybe homa can be a waste of time if there's too much people laughing. Jerry George, what do you think? Think it's a good thing, a bad thing is a waste of time because school is already enough for me. And why do you think school is already enough for you? And because I already did. A lot of paperwork at school. Okay. So bringing a home, why do you think then having to practice it at home, why is that not a good thing for you? Can so I need. To assign, need to play to relax. Okay, so you think no school school lady, teachers may already practice the school. Why am I taking it home? Okay, well done, George. Alice, what's your thoughts on this? Do we not think that that homework can be a way of independence, that can be a way of practice, that can be a way of helping us? Or is it taking us away from everything else? I don't think do homework is waste of time. First, if you do your homework, you can know what do you know or what don't you know, or if. If you if you don't do your homework, you you just you cannot just do it. And well, you have a practice or like a test. You you don't know you are wrong. You don't know that. You don't know the answers because you you don't do your homework. You can you can know what you have learned or what you haven't learned. So I think doing homework isn't waste of time. Okay, allit's nicely, but Yeah and it also responsibility Yeah makes us responsible for having tasks to do. Maybe it helps us practice or be independent without a teacher. However, do a lot of work in school, don't I? Yeah, I'm already learning it in school. I want to play. I want to go outside. I want to spend time with family. Good debate today, right? I'm going to put you into some teams in a moment, but we want to think about these questions. Is the task useful? Is every piece of homework useful? Is there too much? Does it take us away from activities we could be doing? Does it make us unhappy? Yeah. Does it make us hate school? Maybe. Here is a graph. In Finland, they do three hours of homework every week. In the uk we do five hours of homework every week the us six Italy is nine and China does 14 hours of homework every single week. Okay, before I show these results, hands up I'm gonna to show you okay, the results, the exam results who thinks that China is the one that gets the best grades? So pop your hands down for a second. Who thinks that China gets the best grades? I everyone thinks that who thinks Finland gets the best grades? No, a second. They have things down. Wait for a second. Okay. No. Should I show you these are the results? Finland is one of the best performing countries in the world and they only have three hours of homework. And China does have better results, but not huge. Yeah and Italy, usa and the uk are the same. Yeah yes, Jerry. But in the China, the Hong Kong was wasn't have a lot of homework like you said, 14 hour a week, maybe just a few more hour, not not 14 hours. Yes, you wanna have less probably yes. Okay, maybe what are you gonna say? I think the have more. Study homework because China is China Study 2014a week. So I think it's the morning, it's more but they don't have that much more though we move. They only have about 100 better, 100 more people that do better. So it's not amazing results. Yeah Finland. And he has three hours and still does very well. Alice, what were you going to say? You had your hand up. I think why the Finland, Finland or the usa, I think they they will need more time to study. But why the why why China has the most time? No, why I don't know. Every country has a different way. Finland think no. Three hours play, relax, sleeping, outdoor activities, and their results are still very good. Okay? But both work, homework or no homework seems to work. You have to decide today, how are you going to argue that homework is a good idea or homework isn't a good idea? Well, okay, are we ready to put you into the dems? So today's debate, we're gonna to put you into teams, okay? We've talked about this as we've gone along before our debate. We do not interrupt. Everybody gets a time to speak. We should be listening. Okay, you raise your hand at the end. If you have another question youlike to ask, there is audience members. We will come to this. This is a different activity, not today, but there will be a chance for audience members. I am the chairperson when I ask you to stop speaking. It does not mean you did anything wrong. We have to stay to time in debating. So once the timer goes off, I'll ask you to stop talking, okay? And I'm just there to make sure nobody talks over anybody. And then I decide who wins the debate. If you do not win your debate today, it does not mean that you did a bad job. It just means that the debate team that won had a better, more compelling, more convincing argument. Okay? Because maybe their point just makes more sense to the motion and topic, all right? It does not mean you that you debated badly. It does not mean that you are rubbish. It simply means that a team has to win. And one team just sometimes argue emotion a little bit better. Okay? So I want you to remember that everyone will achieve today, I'll assure you. So don't worry if you don't win today's debate. We need to pick win's teams. We're in uneven number, but that's okay. Don't worry too much about that. So Jerry, you are going on the affirmative. Yes, it is a waste of time. And joining you in this waste of time will be George. George is also going to fight with you, so you're gonna to be teammates today. So George and you were going to talk about, yes, it is a waste of time and annn, you're also gonna to join Jerry and George to say, yes, it's a waste of time, okay? Which means Alice and mumu, you are on the negative team today saying, no, it is not a waste of time. It's useful. Alright, it doesn't matter that you're uneven. Alice and mumu, I will take into account that there's two on your team and three on this. Okay, so we'll talk about that when you're in your breakout rooms, okay, we're going to have some time to prepare your debates. I am gonna to put Alice and mumu in a different room, okay? And then I'm gonna to come and speak to you. So just wait in there and I'll be back. I'm gonna to tell you guys what you're gonna to do first. So let me grab my room, start my griping. So Jerry staying in here, George is staying in here, and Anna staying in here. Right? Moving while I'll see you in a second. You you will find that room later, okay, so George and Jerry, you are working as a team, okay? So you're gonna to have to debate together. You will all have one minute, two minutes to speak each. We don't want you to say the same thing, okay? So Jerry, I don't want you to go. Homework takes us away from outdoor activities and then Anne says homework takes away from outdoor activities George says homework takes away from outdoor activities. I want to say different things. So you need to talk to each other. All right, so I need you to decide who's going to say what point. Yeah, who what argument are you gonna to talk about? George? What argument are you gonna to talk about? Jerry? What argument are you gonna to talk about? Yeah. So I'm going to leave you guys to have a chat to talk to each other. Yeah and then we're going to have time to write up your debate so you can make some notes when things like, in my opinion, I think firstly, seconondly in conclusion. I believe that homework is a waste. Yeah. So I think in my opinion, homework here's a waste of time. And then you can put your reasons into here. Firstly, because secondly, because use examples. You can have a Google, you can have a research if you want. Maybe find a percentage. 92% of students hate homework. Yeah 5% of families think it's a waste of time. Yeah. But talk to each other, share ideas. Okay, I'm gonna to leave you for two minutes. I'll be back. I'm gonna to get the other team started. You can have your pens if you would like to make any kind of notes, you are welcome to do that. Okay, enjoy. I'll be back. Maybe we need you. You're doing it, Alice and blame all doing it. Are you already talking about it? Amazing that's exactly what I want you to do Yeah I would like both of you to talk about what is each of your arguments going to be so you don't say the same thing because that be really boring Yeah. Okay Peter, I want to a copy the blue color to to to Yeah Yeah that's fine. You can have a look at everyone okay so just make sure you're not saying the same argument ments. So talk to each other. Make sure you're coming up with different arguments. Yeah, you've got this. Also think about what the other team might say. And maybe you can already say, I know that you will say that homework means that I can't do activities. However, ten minutes a day is really not that long. Yeah. So you can also think about how to stop them in their opinions. Yeah, okay, enjoy. I'll be back. I'll just be flilitting in and out for a little bit, okay? And we won't have that long, but you'll have about five to six minutes, okay? So I'll pop that timer over here. Okay, have fun. How are you doing? Wait teacher her how to use my pen so can you see the on your is a text tool you should be able to see like a big you click that Yeah click the t and then click on the board you should be able to write Yeah I need to pick a color that isn' T White. Otherwise, we can't see it. Are you there? Hang on, let me see if I can get it into a different colphathere we go I'll will be the third one. So I' M George. What will we say? What I will say was the the homework is in my option. I think homework is it's a waste of time. Firstly the outdoor以用I am I disagree homework is waste of time。Here are the business estival or嗯secondly或者on top of that这样子更好。And and you're new. We can't hear you. You need to open your microphone, okay? I think that. Sometimes if there are a lot of homework that the children. If you're in English, you okay? No, please no to know you. No, I can't. Okay, how are we doing? No, no, no, no, no. Don't worry. We're not finiyou've still got time. Just making sure. Yeah, you've got to make sure also it's really easy. Yeah, to I can hear from the other room, just so you're aware, I can always hear both rooms I've just popped in because we've got to make sure that you are practicing all of this in English. Lish, it's so easy to speak in your language, right? It's really easy, I know it is, but make sure that you are doing it in English, you're gonna have to write it in English, you're gonna have to debate it in English, okay? So I can hear ya. So I just want to make sure because I know how good it is and I want to make sure that you get all the best practice that you possibly can alright, right? Remember we're in English, that's why I come in and out. But I have forgot to tell you that I can't hear you. I can hear everybody. You've not been left alone when I leave the room. Just because you can't see me doesn't mean I can't hear your. Try and write in English as well. Remember, you've got to try and say this out loud in English. Long but you need to try to say a long time because if we didn't say enough things, maybe they will, the other team will say the things. So we need to. I have two options. Oh, now I was. Amazing. We've got two, we've got about a minute and a half before we bring everyone back together. You will have some time to continue preparing. So if there is anything that you two want to talk about, maybe now is the time. Okay? Okay, I need to do now. Okay, so don't we we'll have time to prepare all of you. But just think, okay, got a minute and 20s and we just want to make sure that anything you need to say to each other to ensure that you're both debating the same things that you're working together. Remember what things we will need to say and after a few more minute we will start I will say wait, wait, we need to be don't be too that if we have a if we had a copy that I we can use the reader to update it and we don't have a copy. Okay. Anyone just see what you're going to be saying momu because otherwise the other team can pinch what you're saying. They might be a rebuttle you Yeah so try and get as much as you can on your notes. Yeah because that team is gonna know arenday we want to beat them. Come on, you just you too. Will we want to beat the three of them? Yes, can you read the can I read it? Me? I'm not gonna read it, moo. You're gonna read it little. What are you asking for? I say, alsa not you. Oh, you would talking it to Alice. Okay, Alice and mimo, who's going to go first in your team? Me, me, maybe first in team. So mime will open hers and then itwill be Alice, remember the positive, the agree team goes first. So it will probably go Jerry momu someone from that team and then Alice. Okay, so we'll do it in that order. So Alice, you'll be last, you'll like a closing statement. I'll speak right. I'm just going to go check on that last team and then I will be a back in. Hello, how are doing God, you'll be the second one. Guys, we're gonna to do our debate. I want to check Jerry, George and Anne, who's going to go first in your team. Annwill be gold first and God will be go the second. And I will I will go the last one and you'll go last afmative team goes first so Anne you'll be the first person to speak in our debate today okay just so you're aware amazing right I'm going to put you all back up I'm going hide this so no one can see everyone teacher teacher can you copy the can you copy the purple notes and we use we need to see that because that is the this that's note it was important let's and please left us the like please left the Green one that is the note of a God okay so what will is George I don't have it I don't know why so there we are George George you have a phone. Do you want to take a picture? What do you want to take a picture of what you've written? Oh, no, I have a another, another one. Amazing. Fantastic. Well, this is the thing. Should we bring another one over? It's cause, George, I don't want them to see it. Yeah, because theyknow what you're debating. So what else would you like to be? Quoabout course you can. Absolutely, George. Keep a screenshot ts, or just move it over. This one, don't we? This is the same as this one. Do you want to move this over to here? Oh, no, dear. Yeah, no, this one. Okay, take take the screenshot before they come in and they can't see what you've written. Got it. Wait. Okay, got it. Hey, right here we go. Gonna bring them all back in. Momu is coming in, Alice is coming in, everyone's back in the room, right? I need to hide this quickly, quickly, quickly. So you can't see what they're going to talk about. Okay, speak slowly and Kayly. None of this please. I cannot see you. I cannot really hear you. There's no expression, there's just my head. Yeah so I want na be able to see you as you debating okay. As I said, the affirmative team will go first and the orders are going to be then itbe mimo. Then itbe George. Then itbe Alice and then it will be Jerry and say Jerry will go last last okay Alice I'm gonna pop two minutes on the clock don't worry if you don't speak for the full two minutes okay it doesn't matter I just it's our first time we are ever doing it okay so Anne are you ready? The star our debate yes I see the purple note yes you absolutely can see the purple note. There we are. Can you see that there? No tsa. I couldn't it. You can see it. Okay. Are you ready, Anne? Your time starts now. In my opinion, I think homework is a waste of time. First, that if children has a lot of homework, that they in the parents don't let them pay, that the children don't won't write very well at homework, and they will not be very, they will not be very happy. So the parents and when they go to school, they will not learn very well too. They will not play well and they will not learn well. And sometimes if they don't play, they the they won't be healthy too. Sometimes if they won't, if they won't please, some kids will cry. Eyes try to say slowly and then add in conclusion. So in conclusion, believe that homework is a waste of time. Excellent. It doesn't matter that you didn't get well. Get to two minutes and really well done. It's nerve rocking being first. Well, well, that George and Jerry will get your time, I promise you. Moo, are you ready to counter argue? And what you ready want to say? One with my clap, with my parnertry. Hey guys, try to say slowly, don't speak too fast. Okay, okay, all right, that's good. Well, nice teamwork. Okay. Moo moo, are you ready for your counter argument? Moo moo, your time starts now. One, if we have a test, we can have a good test and if we relax all the time, then we couldn't have a good test too. It's a good thing as we need to learn about how to learn and how to play. If you are always learning, you won't be learning all the time. We need to do homework to practice. And if we don't do homework and study, then if we grow up, we couldn't see a world that is a very beautiful world, and we just can go to and very noise jobs. And I think if we couldn't be the view of our China and the robot of our China and some new things we couldn't see, I think it's very sad. So I think if now we can learn, can studies and studies very good. So if we grow up, then we can have a very good people, right moment. In conclusion, in conclusion, I believe that homework is a couldn't waste of time. How are you? Well done. And you're faith never got you. Well done, momo. Okay, nice counter argument like the technology aspect. Okay, George, are you ready? Yeah Yeah, you got time starts now. Students needed to have less homework because they already did a home. They already to work at school, so they need some play ytime to relax. Students need less homework because there are a lot of hours of school and they are not enough. But time for playing gue. In conclusion, I believe that homework is a waste of time. Rather, George, well done. I just before you go, George, can you tell me you just said about this playtime, what activities will they not be able to do if you have too much schoolwork? Do not be able to have family time. And what kind of family time and do this? What kind of family time do you miss out on? Like I'm playing together and watching movies and doing the things that you want. Well done. Thank you very much. George. A fantastic counter argument. We all want played time, don't we? Alan, are you ready? Your time starts now. I disagree. Doing homework is waste of time. Here are the reasons. First of all, doing homework can help you learn and practice. On top of that, when you learning things and we need to review the things we we need to do this task, and you will finish quickly, correctly. Given the reason, doing homework isn't waste of time. Okay. And Alice, can you expand for me? You just said it helps us to practice. Why does it help us to practice? I think when you when you do a homework when you don't know, you can ask the teachers or your parents and you can practice yourselves. Okay, so independent practice. Yeah. Do you think it helps us be more intelligent, smarter. You you can make you can be more more stronger and know more sinand you can be more clever. Okay, thank you very much, Alice. Excellent. And I will come back to you, I promise. Jerry, it's your time. Are you ready? Yes, Jerry, your time starts now. I agree what Alice say, the practice, yes, the homework can practice the things what you learn in school. But in my position I think homework is a waste of time. First, firstly the homework was take off a lot of time, such as a the time when the children stay with their parents to have a good time to stay with their parents, because when they are small they need to have a lot, a lot of time to stay with their parents. And secondly, they cannot, if that wastes a lot of time, if that use a lot of time, they couldn't have any time to have some outdoor activity to like, make their body to be strong, be healthy. That will be, yes, the practice, the work in school is important, but their their body, their their healthy was important than their work in the school. Okay, finish conclusion in. Conclusion, I believe that the homework is waste of time. Well done, Jerry. Amazing. So now hannever give this profi guess. I have George. I think all your trophies have been going to Jerry by accident. And well done every single one of you. We're going to build on this now. I've got an understanding of what ability you all have, and it's a very high ability. We are gonna to be opening the floor next week to rebuttle ling I tell you and absolutely fantastic. Some really nice ideas. Make sure you put the consequences. Give an example in yours. Yeah but and some really nice ideas. Very clear. Yeah George, yours again. Some good ideas. Just try and get those examples in there. Okay, just expand a little bit Jerry. Some nice ideas here. You talked about this school, you talked about learning well, you talked about nice consequences. Just make sure for you now, Jerry, we need you to perhaps get another reason in there. And again, maybe some research, some statistics for yours, okay, to make it a bit stronger. Momu, same as Jerry, make sure you're using a bit of examples and statistics in yours, but some really good points. And Alice, very nice, really clear, really crisp on what you're talking about to again, we just maybe want to expand some of those ideas. Each one of you worked in your team brilliantly. Try and when you're discussing, I know a lot of you did this, but try when you're discussing to also discuss in English. Yeah. Do you remember it's an English class practicing your English as well, right? But you worked so well together. I am so, so, so proud of you. Are we ready for the results of today's debate? Is going to. The affirmative team today, Anne, George and Jerry, congratulations on your first win. Very, very well. Oh, I won't got Jerry's there. Well done. Well done, me. U and Alice, it does not mean your debate was bad. It's it still was brilliant. They just had you at the end there with their examples. All right, you should do two. Did an amazing job. You were kgeorge. You were Jerry. You've got your hands up. Are we just waving? Did you have your hands up for anything? Do you have a question? What is our homework for this lesson? So I would like you to research both sides featis the best job. Yeah so have a look what is both sides? Please disagree and agree when you don't know what team you're gonna to be on. So research both sides for me. Yeah, you're all amazing. Thank you so much. Yes miu. We need to say teacher is the best job and teacher don't teacher doesn't is a best job. Yes, yes, momo, I want you to research both for me. You can prepare both. Yeah. Yeah, thank you. So you're all amazing. Hi five Jerry high five George, Harry and I my hi Alice, you are amazing debaters. I cannot wait to see what you're gonna be doing. Yeah, you've done an amazing job. Thank you for working so well together and listening. Have a feast. Hi all. Happy scribbling.
