Hi, Zoe. How are you today? Bye. What have you got? You look like you've got like a lovely sweet. I love sweets. Is that like a nice? Is what suhave you got there? Oh, long, you don't know what it is. Is it like chewy? Oh, you don't know, don't know what it is. No, it's not chewy. It looks, it looks delicious. I'd like it. You should send it over to me so I can eat the the Candy as well. Hi, Chloe. Okay, okay, great. Yeah. Have you had a good day? Yeyeah, you look like you're in a different space today. Chloe. Have you have you changed rooms? Oh, no, she was just teasing us. Yeah, iPad. You're using an iPad today. That's okay, that's okay. I just wondered if you were in a hotel or something, or I was like, she's moved. She's moved loyou, get used to where people say, don't you? Hi, Renee. How are you? Yeah, you had a good day. Yeah, Yeah. How are you today, Mason? Not very good. Oh, not again. What's happened today, Mason? Oh, we have a math exam. I like tomorrow we have a exam. Just lots of exams, exams, exams, exams. Have you revised for them? And yesterday we have a science exam. Oh, this is what they say. Rubbish. I'm some exs. Back the always wait, see if you've got lots of exams as well. Yes, yesterday we got a Chinese test and today we've got a math test and tomorrow we're going to have an English test. That's a lot of test people. That is a lot of tests. Hi, George. How are you? I'm fine. But a lot of homework. Nothing exams. No exams, but lots of homework. Oh dear. Oh no. So we've got lots of homework, lots of tests that we've got zoeating and sweet. Do you have tests Chloe and zoage you have any tests or homework? Yeah, that's just old bar. It's got it's finished. You're finished. Okay. What about you, Chloe? Yeah, okay. It's also it's over. Oh, they're on the other side. December our test. Okay. So, George, have you got this mathomework, this mathomework this mathomework this mathomework this mathomework? Today's homework is a bit reduced than yesterday. Getting new homework every day. I don't miss homework, guys. I don't miss homework. Well, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome. It's all important though. You will be so happy that you've done it. When you get your beautiful careers and you'll all be very successful, you'll be happy you did all this homework in tei, promise you, right? Today we are starting off by talking about preparation. You guys are very good at preparation, so things like short preparation and long preparation. So George, what might we be thinking about when we think about short preparation? And I think you should think quickly Yeah we're thinking quite quickly on our feet as I say, which means we haven't got a lot of time to make a speech, so we're gonna to have to do notes. Yeah so we might we win by long preparation, if you should think deeply in the meaning of every word of the motion. Very well done, Zoe. We might research, we might have time to think about has this been debated before? What other things are out there. So when we've got long preparation, we've got a lot more time to think about expert opinions, to think about comparisons, to think about maybe a debate that's happened before. Short preparation is sort of what we do in here, where you've only got a short amount of time to make your points. You've got to think, what are the best points I'm going to make in the time that I've got? Okay? A lot of competitive debating uses short preparation, so just be mindful of that. Okay? So where you were given a much short time, usually 15 minutes to prepare is usually what you get. You have no time for research. You can only rely on your brain and every minute counts. Okay? Make sure you have paper ppencil, highlighters, index cards. Renee, it's you can jerwith ther in that guard and a bottle of water. Yeah because you'll get a bit, you can get stressed and there's nothing worse than when your tongue sticks to the roof of your mouth because you're nervous. So always have some water to make sure that you don't sound like you can't speak anymore. Yeah when you're too nervous, and discuss and ask yourself, what is the debate about? What do we have to prove? What do they have to prove versus the other side? What will be changed if the motion is passed? Who are the actors? Who is the stakeholders? What is the mechanism? What's driving this debate or what's driving this idea? What is the debate about? What do the words in the motion mean? What do they have to prove? What will be changed if the motion is passed? Okay. So ideas and the policy, it's really big because we've got to think about the other side and you've got to think about if you are trying to change something in your debate, why? Yeah. So cut through all the practicalities, focus on the points. There's lots of things we can talk about in a debate that think about the main points that you're making, find the problem and think about a solution to that problem and then try and prove it as best you can. Yeah especially if you've got a short preparation, think about in your team what you could do to change it and how what will the world look like if your action happens? Who is going to make the change happen? Who will be affected by this change and is that worth it? And how will the change happen? Who's going to make this change and how is it going to be put into motion? So again, ideas. Think about keywords. In this one, money does not bring happiness. We're thinking about the value of money, and we're thinking about this idea of happiness. So we're defining that motion. What is happiness? How much money brings us happiness? What brings us happiness? What if I took away your family, your friends? Would that make you happno? So is money as important? Living on the street though, homeless, is that going to make you happy? No, probably not. And then think about the opposition have to prove things as well. And so you have to think about what are they going to try and prove? What are they going to try and say? So you need to have answers. Yeah and you want to drop t those answers down into your sort of two minutes. You have to think fast as a debater. And then in the next three minutes of your time, you need to think about the arguments. Yeah don't worry whether the arguments are good or not. Just get them down. Just get ideas down, possible arguments and pick your favorites. Then you can discuss it with your team with wonderful Renee's index cards, and you can think about choosing the most persuasive arguments, the best arguments in your team and you can rank them accordingly. So you can think about who's going to talk about that as the first speaker, who's going to talk about it as the second speaker, and who's gonna to talk about it as the last speaker. Yeah and we want to think about who's noting down what arguments. Make sure you've got your best speakers for each role. Everyone has a favorite role. Yeah take turns to think about the other sides argument and try to rebut them. Everybody has a responsibility for that. Okay. So George, say our motion was money does not bring happiness. What kind of things would you think about here? And could you see that again? Yeah, if you had this motion, money does not bring happiness. What things would you think about? Money and happiness. And what about money? Mason, what might we think about with money? Money? Yeah. How much money makes us happy? Yeah. What is that definition of that? Excellent happiness? What might we be thinking about if we had this debate in terms of happiness? What kind of happiness do you want to Yeah what makes you happy? What makes you delighted? What makes you skip? Absolutely. Okay, Zoe. So we've thought about the definitions of these motions and and these words. What might I think about when I'm deciding to build my argument here? What am I gonna to perhaps perhaps start to talk about? We'll stop to discuss. You're. You could. You could like. You discuss. Maybe that's the happiness you want, might not be able to buy, maybe you buy, that doesn't mean that you could be happy. You could have a lot of money, but if you don't have your family, then you could not be so happy always. Yes, you won't always have excellence. We're gonna think about sort of starting to compare, isn't it? If I have money, this could be happened, but if I didn't have my family, so actually which one's more important? Okay, that's a great thing to be thinking about. Renee. What else could we start to think about with our team? What other things would you start to write down? Arguments for or against, good or bad? Do the do the things that many can bring ings us is the same as what you what can make you happy? Yeah. Is it the same as what as what can what and make you happy? Yeah, absolutely. Lily, make you happy. Brilliant. That's a great option. Hello. Hi you welcome. Welcome. What's your name? My name is Cherry. Hi, Cherry. Is it Cherry? Did you say? Oh, that's a really nice name. Welcome, Cherry. Are you here for a trial lesson today? Is it your first lesson? Yeah have you debated before? No that's okay Jerry. That's fine. We're gonna be you will can teach you as we go along. Yeah by the end of today you will have debated but welcome welcome to our class. It's so lovely to have you with us Jerry. We're just talking about short preparation and long preparation for a debate. Okay, getting everything ready for our debate and discussing with our team. So we've just been saying so Mason, can you tell Cherry, what are we discussing about a Short Debate? What do we have to think about when we've only got a short time to prepare for our debate? I like the key ideas like in like motion, like you like to select the we are talking about like money and happiness. We need to expand more. I like in more details. Excellent. Yeah, very we've got tta think about the best points. Yeah whether they're good points in the beginning or bad points, we just want to think of ideas. We want to think about what does money mean? What does happiness mean? Because we may only have 15 minutes to prepare for our debate. Yeah. So we've got to think about the key factors. What's the best thing for us? Yeah. So chwe're going to now look at some long reparation guys. So this is now obviously something that you guys do when you have the motion already before you have to debate. So like you have in these classes where you have some time to prepare so we could research in depth, we can find fact and arguments and we can think about sources that we're going to use. Okay? So we've got long prep or we've got short prep that we can use. Okay. Today, today's debate, Cherry, you're joining us on a good one. If a gallery is on fire, which one will you save? A cat or a famous painting? Hmm, this is an interesting one today, isn't it? Okay, so let's start with Renee. Renee, right. What do you think? Start our discussion off us, Renee. What kind of things have you thought about? I'm not very sure because either one you say will have. Will have value. Like if it's a cat, you've saved it another life. And maybe if you don't have it, well, don't have this owner, you can have new pets without buit. But if you save a famous painting, then maybe you be rich by saving it. And. And then you can well, being wish is kind of a good thing. So you can buy lots of things and. Yeah okay. So we're sort of saying, Yeah, we could save a life if it's a cat. We're talking about an animal here, right? But these paintings, guys, like I said to you last week, these paintings are could be worth millions, billions. Yeah, they could be one of a kind. They could be by artists that no longer living. And so you would never get this painting again. Yeah but we are also talking about a cat. A cat has a living thing. Yeah. It's got it's got feelings, it's eats, it's sleeps, it's kind. It's a lovely pet. So it's very difficult, I think, to decide which one we should say. This is this is a difficult question, Renee, and I think you've thought about some beautiful ideas here. Okay, George, what do you think? Agree with Renee. Sort of bit of both. Or are you firmly cat or firmly famous painting? I'm I'm very not very sure too. Okay, tell us why you're not really sure and because the both the two have have some some values that I cannot compare with them. Yes, we can't really. They're quite different, aren't they? Okay, let's think about it morally. So right or wrong, morally, which one should we morally save the cat? Yeah, we should already save the cat, right? Okay, so we feel like that's probably the thing that makes us feel good. But the famous painting is worth a lot of money. Could that change someone's life forever? So he says no. Mason says yes. Okay, let's bring me down, right, Mason, tell me why you think yes, because if you have that much money, like you can do anything, buy all of things, like you can buy a huge, like manto live, or like you can even like buy more cats than like just saving one cat from a fire. Good, good. I'll have lots of money, right? It could it could give me mansions. It can give me more cats. I can maybe this is an old cat. Maybe the cat was was at the end of their life anywhere. Yeah, we could justify it that way. I mean, yes, Zoe, why are you sort of no, absolutely not. But when the cplay with you, then maybe it can make you happy. And a cat is also humans friends. So you should be kind to humans friends and should be be kind. They were life. Yeah, they were life like our life, aren't they? So don't they deserve to be saved from fires as much as us humans should be saved from fires? Or is Mason right? You can buy a huge mansion with a famous painting. You could buy yourself more cats. Yeah, it could be an old cat. Yeah. What do you think, Terry? I think it's the cat more because the money is that you can earn it but but a cat at you, but a cat is real life and maybe there's no or any of the other cat like this, the same of it. And and a cat is life and it just like a human. You you said famous painting or a human, then you must choose a human. And I think this is a really good point, Jerry, isn't it? Because it's the fact Tory put a cat into here. Because if I did pose the question, gallery on fire, and I should save a human or a famous painting, what would everyone choose then? Human Yeah, without a doubt. Youtake the human, wouldn't he? So Jerry, you're right. Is the cat not as important as the life of a human? Yeah, because that's that's part of it, isn't it? Yeah, there's a really good point to bring. Plloe, what do you think? I think it depends because if you Choa cat, do you want the happiness from a cat? And if you don't like a cat or actually do not have a cat before like me, I wouldn't know how to how to prepare for it and then I might, Change its life to be dead. And then I don't want anything to be dead anymore. But if I, but if I saa art, do you do very much of money give you the happiness that you want? Yeah, I asked. Good pointer. I haven't really thought about that. You could say the cat, couldn't you? And then you don't know how to look after the cat. So then you're essentially going to make that cat's life even worse. So maybe leaving it there and there's a better option. Poright, I think it's a good flablai. Not thought about that. Not thought about what I do with the cat once, I'd say, diyes, Renee, you've tickled Renee with that as well. Right? Going, Renee. I think I would sing a cat because, well. A in its heart, a painting is just a piece of paper with some paint on it. But a cat is alive, and I realiit have deserved to be treated like any life, like any human. So if then art gallery is on fire, I think I would choose to save the cats. Okay, okay. So we've got to this idea that one is a piece of paper in theory. Yeah. Okay. I mean, absolutely. Some of these paintings, though, were once in a lifetime. They could tell us history. They could be something that could be an heirloom for people for years. And eato come at. Mona Lisa is very famous. What if I lost her? What, she got burned in a fire? What if I lost Mona Lisa? Would the world be a worse place? I don't know. I don't know. Please tell me a George. Okay, I think some of you have have talk talk not talk on this topic. This topic is how to save but you but you won't give it on your own. So I although I'm still not sure, I think some of you can have thinking again about this question, not by your personal life. Okay, so George, how do you think the group should think about this question then? I think we should we should think about their value. Oh, okay. So we've got right what we've got going on, which I think is brilliant, right? We've got Cherry, Chloe and Renee and Zoe. You guys are very much thinking about this from an emotional and that's that's a good place to think about it, right? And George is putting putting this question to us all, like, should we be thinking emotionally about this cat? Do we think about this cat as if we like cats, or whether we think or do we think about the value of the cat, how much the cat might be worth compared to the worth the painting? Because this could be a straight cat, right? This could be a cap that no one's paid for. It's not worth anything. It's it's lived on the street for years and years and years, but your painting could be worth 3 billion pounds. And I think it is something to consider. We need to consider both, right? Messon, you had your hand up. Do you think the value painno, I just want to like, compare this to another thing I have did, like, I have like, have, like, do something like called a trolley problem. I like it's is similar to this. Like you have, you, like, you have to do that choice. Yes, and tell us about that. The trolley problem is a great thing to bring up here, Mason. And what is the trolley problem? I like I like, you can like, lithe, clever. I like like train, like to kill one people, like except of killing five people. Like urally, exactly. So do we let the cat die to save the millions of artists and painting and and potentially a lot of lot, lot of money that could keep our gallery alive, that could keep our history alive? Or is that one cat more valuable, maybe not in cost, but more valuable to us emotionally, more valuable to us in life, more valuable as to our contribution of living than the painting itself? And I think that's something we've got to weigh up today. But don't worry, you're going to have further discussions, but I'm going to put you into groups. There is not because of the nature of this debate. I'm not gonna to put you in an agree or disagree. What I'm gonna to do is I'm gonna to ask you as a group to put forward your argument. I would like you to think about where you stand by the end of your argument, whether you're going to say, so therefore we think famous paintings should be surviving or therefore we think a cat should be survived. Okay? But you're going to put across your ideas. It's okay, George, if you're on the fence and you're not sure, okay, because you can present that argument today. What are going to do? I'm going to do them randomly because it doesn't matter which side you're on. Okay? I'm going to be coming into both rooms. We can chat, we can discuss. What I want you to think about is how are you going to split your speech up to the group? Are you going to do first speaker? Second speaker? Third speaker? Are you gonna to do like everybody takes a couple of lines, are you going to work in a way that maybe someone starts it, then two people speak and someone ends it? Okay, so you can you can structure it however you want, all right and then you're going to present it to the class all we're going to listen to your side of the debate. Okay? If we've got time, I hope we will then we will put you on the sides where maybe you might battle each other, but we'll see how that comes in terms of how you come to your agreements with each other. All Cherry, I will pop into your room first whichever team you're with because we'll just talk you through how the debating goes and how it happens. Yeah so we can tell you a bit about the traditional debating as well so that you've got a whole overview. But yes, I want you to work as a team. That's your biggest thing today. Okay? Working as a team, thinking about what you're gonna to say, but you don't need to agree on either side. But I do want you to think carefully about the emotional impact, about the financial impact, about the value of this. Okay, right. Let's put you in teams. Ms I'm going to randomly to select so who's going to be team captain of of the first team is going to be Cherry. I think that's a little unfair. So Jerry gonna do it again. I won't make you Captain Mason. You will be captain of team one or team b or team tiger. Zobie, you will be joining Mason. Flowin you will also join this team as well. Okay, so let's find out. Team captain for the second team. Jerry again, Renee will be team captain for the other team. Don't worry, team captain doesn't matter too much, but we're going to pop in those teams. Okay, let's put you into groups. I need two. Don't I need two classrooms? Regroup. Lovely. You're all in the wrong room. That's not pretty helpful, is it? Right here, let's swap Mason over here and Zoe into here, not Zoe into here, Renee into here. Okay, I'll be in in a second. Okay guys, hello. So that we've got enough time to debate, I'm going to pop on ten minutes into here. Okay, so haven't got a huge amount of time. So like I said, you've just got to present your arguments. It doesn't matter if at the end of it you haven't quite come to a clear understanding, but maybe let's be clear which one you agree with more. It's fine if, for example, zobe, you're like team cat and Mason, your team gallery. That's okay, because what you could do is zobie could talk about the cat, Mason, you could talk about the gallery. Chloe, you could be the third speaker that maybe summarizes the two points together. Okay, makes sense. Okay, right. Good luck, guys. Enjoy. I'll be back in if you need me. Hello, here we go. We're back, right? I'm going to pop on a timer. We'll only have about ten minutes so that we can get round everyone today. So just to remind ourselves all so we're gonna it doesn't matter if you're team cpped, it doesn't matter if you're team gallery, you can still work together. So one might talk about tea like bad the cat. One might talk about the points about the gallery. Maybe the third person talks about how both of them have value or merit or how one is better than the other. Okay, so it doesn't matter if you slightly disagree with each other. And then we go, but Cherry. So Cherry, what usually happens with our debating is we have an agree team and we have a disagree team, okay? And then we have a chair, which is usually me. And what happens is is we we decide that someone on the agree team will work with first speaker, second speaker and third speaker. And we're still using that kind of format today. So someone will speak first for about two and a half minutes. Then we have a second speaker that speaks for two, two and a half, and then a third speaker that speaks for two, two and a half. Your first speaker Cherry puts out the argument, so tells us what the motion is, tells us what they, what they're going to talk about, what their team believe in. The second speaker tends to rebuttle. So they rebuttle the argument of the first speaker on the negative team, but we're not doing that today because we're doing a slightly different format. Okay? So the second speaker today will make also make an address. The third speaker, Cherry, is always the speaker that repeats the ideas of the group and then they also make sure that they've got a conclusion. Okay. So that's what you're kind of working with today, Cherry. All right. Yeah. And have fun. As these guys will tell you it doesn't matter if it goes really wrong, it doesn't matter if it goes really well. You Yeah it's just about doing the best you can within your team. Okay Yeah and Cherry have you got any questions? No right guys I'm gonna I'm getting it third speaker will get a closing speech as they will okay so we've got about eight minutes on your clock good luck I'll be back in and out. So if you've got any questions from any of you, please holller, good luck with your speeches. Yeah, okay, here we go. If you wanna just call me, I can hear everyone, okay? Oh, we go there. Okay. Have we got our speeches or are we just drawing on the board? We're not just drawing on the board. We've be preparing with me because we're sensible, sensible students who would be who would not just be drawing on a board and would be coming up with their ideas, aren't we? How many? How many? We've got seven minutes of naes and you've had ten, but it seems like you've spent four of them drawing. Okay, so what we're gonna do, there's all this stuff that you need. You don't need all this drawing. Let's go up. Okay, so what you guys want to talk about. So are we talking about are we saving the care at or saving the painting? It's up to you because I think Mason's on the side of serving the painting. So you can have both arguments in here. So first of all, let's put speaso team leader Mason who's gonna to be your first speaker? Not me, not you. Okay, Chloe, Zoe, anyone volunteering for fair speaker? Right? Chloe is gonna go speak first speaker. Chloe, are you more saving the cat or saving the painting? Second, I you don't know. No, I've haven't been having a cat before, so I don't know about the emotion. And I don't have the paintings before, but I draw wn my paintings before, but I don't know anything. So I think bplay way, you should present both arguments in the beginning because you're gonna be the first speaker. I think you should say in today's debate, I believe that Wilcats are living things and have values. We must also explore that paintings are also really expensive. So I think you should say what's good about one and what's good about the other. So you can put both arguments forwards. You could open the debate about four. And again, yes, you can speak four and against. Yes, Mason, I want to, can we have a mind now? Made up. I want to be second. Yes, absolutely. You can be the second one. And what are you going to talk about, Mason? We mean you absolutely can. That's why I've done this this way today because it's a bit too difficult to do and agree or disagree. So we can absolutely do in one minute. Okay, so Mason, what are you going to talk about? I'm talking about like if you choose to take out a painting, you will be a murderer. But if you choose to take out the cat, you you will be killing the painting Oh, so essentially we're going to so if we take the bar, if we don't save the cat, when that's got the life, are we bad people? I think it's what you've got to ask yourselves today. Yeah if you choose to take the painting or you greeit, or are you saving history? Yeah. If you're saving the cat, then you're saving a life. But is the cat worth the same value? Yeah and Zoe, you're gonna to be the third speaker and what are you gonna to talk about? Zoe? Are you more painting or more cat? I can't hear you. I can't hear you, Zoe. I go. On the fence as well. So you're also going to state why. So what we need to do, guys, is you need to think about both sites. You need to talk to each other. Now, about three and a half minutes, I want you to come up with reasons that all of you are going to be talking about you you don't want the same thing over and over and over and over again. Yeah. So make sure you know who's talking about which point Yeah we're gonna to be sensible in here. I can leave you and you're gonna make good notes okay amazing Mason, if I give you a pen bag, will you use your pen sensibly and for good things and not for bad? Okay, thank you very much. Right got three minutes make sure you're not going to repeat the same point to each other. Okay guys how are we doing in here? We okay, we've got ideas. I'm fine. You'll find ds a Renee's got some stuff. Cherry, have you got ideas? You know you're going to talk about? Yeah, you've got some ideas. Brilliant. And George, have you got some ideas? Yes, of course. Excellent. Okay. So let's make sure that we're not talking about the same thing. So George, what kind of stuff are you going to talk about in your debate? David ducat, we're all saving the cats in this one. This is going to be an interesting debate. Okay, so we're all saving the cat. Lovely. I am so pleased with saving the cat. I'd save the cat. So George, what are you going to talk about? Why do you think saving the cat is important? And because the catch is a is a unique thing that you cannot you cannot copy it. Yeah, you got what the int but the painting can can copy it at home. Yes, excellent. I love that. And we shouldn't put meral value above life. Yeah, above a painting. Okay, for really a George think he's going be great with Renee. What have you got? You can put them up there. Renee, we got read that my eyes are that good. Life painting is only paper. I can't read your last one. Renee, I'm not that good at reading on the screen. You'll have to just tell we were. The second one is that if we got too much money burglars we have our we have the eyes on our money and the. The the money might be stolen Yeah actually burglars make steal it Yeah what you've stolen what you've taken from the fire burglars Yeah burglars I like this Oh, what burglar what not burgers burglars. Yeah, robbers. Yeah, Robert. Yeah. Okay, we're getting really good, right? Cherry, what have you got? Because. If you put a life and another. Thing. And so maybe you choose life. And if the if it's the painting, there are lots of painting on the world, but this cat, there's just the only one cat like this. You can't make another action. Absolutely same cat like this. Yes, well done. I think this is a great point, isn't it? We have so many ways of telling history, so many paintings in the world. Okay, so these are really good and strapoints, what I'm gonna to do is I'm gonna to take a little screenshot of just what you've got in here so that we can look at that and then we're gonna to just check quickly check on the other team and then I'll bring you in. I will also put p up the structure like the signposting for you Cherry, just because it's your first time debating with the class. So I'll just put like sort of little like sentence starters to help you in the main classroom for you, okay, which lots of other people use as well. Okay, I'll be back. I'm just gonna to check on the others. Oh, how are we doing? We haven't drawn on the board. We've got success. So we've got an idea of what we're doing. I'm hearing yes, I'm hearing it sort of does he sort me? Right? Right, guys, I'm going to bring everyone back. I've taken a screenshot of those notes for us. Okay, so let's pull everybody back in. Everybody's coming back in, right? We're all back in the main room. This is a hard debate today, guys. I think I think this is a very sort of quite difficult debate, isn't it? Because it's such a it's quite like it's it's it's kind of one of these scenarios that may never happen, okay? But you're doing an incredible job of thinking of reasons and I'm listening to both groups. You've taken very different approaches to this question, very different. So it's going to be an interesting debate to hear what each group thinks. Okay? So I'm going to pop this on the board. There's that teams. That's your team. I will tell you which team will go first in a moment, but just for everybody, just in case we need some signposting. Ladies. Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Oh, that's very big, isn't it? Good evening. Like dies and gentlemen, Madam Chair, which will still be me today. And we haven't got a worthy opponents today. So because you're not necessarily competing against each other, we believe as a team. So we believe that. So firstly, you can use secondly, we can use, for example, if you want to, and you can use thirdly and then we always have in conclusion, don't we, to make sure we know that everyone's finished. So in conclusion, and we want to repeat our point in conclusion, I believe that saving a cat is much better than saving a painting as it's a unique life. Thank you. And always say thank you at the end so that we know we've finished the debate. Okay, right, Chloe, Zoe Mason, you're going to go first so that Cherry can see how it's all going to run. Yeah because you guys are practiced well practiced in in your debating skills now, right? Okay, so we've got Chloe Mason will go second and then this is Zoe. Okay. You will have about two and a half minutes on the clock each. If you don't fill two and a half minutes, that's okay. Just try this. Your notes are there for you. Okay. Are you ready, team? I'll see my nuts. Cherry, Renee, George, our job is to maybe think of questions. We want to ask this group because we may not agree with anything they're saying and we are allowed to ask questions at the end. We also might want to think about any feedback. Maybe there's some bits that just feel a bit confusing. Maybe you want to give them a compliment. Okay. But we are actively listening. All right. Okay, Chloe, you're going to kick us off. Are you ready? Okay, okay, Chloe, your two and a half minutes begins now. Actually, today's motion is, if a gallery is on fire, which one would you save, the cat or the $3000 painting? But actually the painting costs like different amount of money, although it costs different. Somebody will think they want to save the cat or somebody will think about they want to save the money. They want money and then they would save the art. So I think first. If I save the painting, then do I? Do I have the money? To have the happiness that you want, do your happiness just needed that money, or you just have your happiness already? And do you want a better life? So if I save the painting, you will have more money. But do you know sometimes the money wouldn't be very good? If you had more money, the people would want to stole your money more. And if they want to stole your money, they would come and stole all your things and then you would have no money, any, no money at all. And if some people would say that the money you have would be very good, and the, some people would say that the painting is bad because it's just a piece of paper. And but the art isn't just a paper. Some people or any people couldn't actually magnify that art. Very realistic at the at the real painter. So, and the cat have kind give you emotion. So thanks. Thank you very much. Clever, your time is now. Thank you very much. Okay, speaker Mason, your time starts now. Oh so good night, ladies and gentlemen. And Madam Chair, like today's motions, if a gallery is on fire, what one will you see, a cat or a famous painting? I have a question to ask you first. Would you like to be a murder history or a murder cter? Like in my opinion opinion, like we really we really should save the cat and we must also save the famous painting first. If you save the cat and and you save a life, you won't be a murderer and you can get a love from your pet, the cat, alive. So it is like more valuable, like more valuable, like physically like to your heart and like A A famous painting some way. But but if you think the famous painting, except for the cat, the first cat would die, you get the famous painting. You know the famous painting cost a lot of money for like a 3000 billion dollars a pounds actually for for like Mona Lisa painting. So like if you receive the painting, like you are worth a lot of money, but like now, like a lot of places in America and like other places like will be like Steeves that will steal your money, like you be poor. Like as always before, I also like there are benefits for saving the famous painting. Like as I said, you can earn a lot of money if it was not still, I like famous painting. Like, well, there's only one. Like you cannot be a copy because like for example, Mona Lisa, like the person who has drhas died. So like there's another copy. So like it will be very valuable. So like some, I think that like if a gallery is fair, I will mostly want to see the famous painting. Thank you. Thank you very much, Mason. Your time is now up. Okay, so we are final speaker from this team. Zoe, your time starts now. Ladies and gentlemen, chair. So firstly on today's motion is if a gallery is on fire, which one will you save? A cat or a famous painter? So I'll firstly ask you a question. What will you choose? Happiness or money? If you want happiness, maybe cat will make you happy, but you have to think about what happiness you want. Maybe a cat will make you happy by playing with you and by living with you and staying with you every day. But maybe you be happy by having a lot of money. But I am cat, are very cat and human are friends. And you should be kind to, we should be kind to each other. And if a gallery is on fire, a cat would be easier to save because it's more lighter and easier to Carry. And a painting is like a paper is also very easy burned. Maybe before you find the painting, it's already burned into crust. And but also we have to think about the painting. A painting could have give you a million dollars, but a cat is a living friend an and you should, a living thing is as important as humans. So imagine in the salary is save a famous painting or save a human. Maybe you would choose to save a human. So I so in conclusion, I mostly think that we should save the cat. Thank you. Thank you very much, speaker Zoe. So just to clarify, this team is fighting for both sides of the argument with equal merit. So equal agreement on both sides. Okay. Any questions from the audience and panel? Nope. I want to add a sort of Mason. Oh do if a gallery I am really on fire. I will just run for my life except for saving a cat or a famous painthat's. Not debbut. I agree. Be I think I would be. That's debate. And okay, I've got a quick question. A couple of two quick questions. Okay, firstly over Zoe. You talked about this cat and losing the life of the cat. But Zoe, could the cat not be a stray and therefore it doesn't hold any value to anyone? But it may be precious to you, so you would want to I'm like, I'm saving and it might be so precious that it cannot be repplaced. So like every cat is different and cannot be replaced by thank you. Okay, thank you very much. Sorry. And Chloe, you said you talked about the painting and the value of the painting at the beginning of your debate, but what if that painting actually is only worth 50 quid? Would that change your decision? Sometimes but if I save a cat, but you don't actually want a cat, you can just want a thing at your home. And it wouldn't actually have any sounds. Would it would make no sounds, and then it wouldn't actually let you be very angry. Could we not send it to a rescue center? Could we not gift a cat somewhere else? Do we have to take it home? But actually, if you want the cat, you can save that at home, but you might don't need a cat. But if you save a cat, don't you just want a cat and at your home? Quite, you don't. And you don't put it at your home and you put it in the like the saving center. Would it wouldn't it just be nothing that you have done and then you might be dangerous in the final? Well done, Chloe. Okay, fantastic. Okay. Thank you very much, team. Well done. I will give my decision on which teams is won after these guys a beokay. So now we have Renee Cherry and George A. They've got a very different opinion to you guys. They've decided to pick aside this could have been an interesting debate. Okay, Renee, are you ready? Your time starts now. Evening, ladies and gentlemen. And Madam Chair, today's motion is, if a gallery is fire, which one would you save, a cat or a famous painting? Surely a life is more important than some paper with paint on it. I think that it. So I think that if a gallery is on fire, I would save the cats rather than a famous painting. Firstly, a cat is, it's a life, but a painting, however, is only pieces of paper. A cat is alive, so if you save it, you can't take it home if you need it. And it can give you happiness emotionally. It can keep you happy, and when you bored, it can play with you. But saving painting can only bring some money. Money can't buy happiness, friendship, but only things like pencils, rulers, things like that. Also, if you have too much money, burglars might want them. And then you would turn from, you would begin from a. Every average person to a rich person than to a very poor person, and large changes in one's life isn't good. Finally. Finally, a painting. A painting is just a painting. So it might, someone might say that it can represent our history and show what happened in past, in our past, but not so. But a painting is not the only form of history we can investigate in other ways. Though, in conclusion, I think that if a gallery is on fire, we should choose to see the cats rather than a famous painting. Thank you. Thank very much, Renee. Renee, that was one of your best debates. That was really clear and concise. Nice note, Ted, that you're doing in your notes. Renee, it's making a huge difference. Well done. Yeah, I want to acknowledge that. Okay, Cherry, are you ready? Your time starts now. Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. And Madam Chair, today's mission is, if a glass gallery is on fire, which one would you save? A cat or a famous painting? Maybe for me, I'll choose the cat at, for example, if we will, you choose a real life or there's something, maybe you choose life. But and there are lots of, and there are lots of painting on the world. Maybe and the, and this this painting, maybe you can. You can copy it and but you can't copy it with the same cat, and everything is the same, and the. The cat's life is maybe like a human and ve, if you put a famous painting or a human, maybe you, maybe you're absolutely just a human, because the human is more more important than A, A famous painting. I think a painting is just some or someone is maybe he is lots of money, but for some the other people maybe just a piece of paper that have paints on it. So I think to choose a real life I is more important than to famous painting. So I think I'll choose a cat. Thank you. Thank you very much. Jeremy. Your first paint that was incredible. Well, high five, so devour best one in class. Well done jererry. That was excellent. Nice signposting. Yeah. Also jererry was you had a nice pace to that. Yeah you you were really calm when you were speaking. Wasn't too fast, wasn't too slow. Okay? And you had some really good points. That was incredible. Well done, Cherry. Okay, George, are you ready? Final debate of today. Okay, George, your time starsnap. Dear teachers and friends, we I definitely save the cat if the gallery is on fire. A cat is a living being with feelings and a right to life, while a painting is just a physical object. Life is irreplaceable, and not artwork can compare to the value of a living creature. So I have two points. First, life is the most valuable thing, and the cat has a right to survive. All living beings have the right to survive, including the cat. It can feel pain, joy and fear, just like humans. A famous painting is a beautiful work of art, but he has no consciousness or feelings. If we let the cdie to save a painting, we are putting material value above life, which is wrong. For example, we will never choose a painting over human life, and the cat life deserves the same respect, and also famous paintings are also insured and even even if damage, skilled artists can restore them with modern technology. So so I will wrap up with three key points. First, the famous plity is a priceless cultural heritage for all. It carries our history and creativity, while the cat's life has no such as no such global meaning. Second, saving the painting lets future generations learn from it and enjoy this masterpiece, while saving the cat only have only helps one people that is not sure and dead. And third, saving the catch shows our kindness and empathy, which are the spirit of humanity. Somebody will say the cat has some great cultural value, but cultural value cannot cannot read life. Others says the painting is irreplacable in art history, but the a cat's life is irreplaceable too. Choosing the cat means choosing lives and kindness and that's more important than enterpainting same and George George and fantastic conclusion. Yeah your conclusion today was absolutely fantastic to address it with the three points. Yeah, very, very well done. I'm huge congratulations to every single person. Today's debates have gone up again. I can't quite believe it. Very quick questions for this team before I deliver my verdict. Renee, you talked about this historic painting, but would not losing an historic painting not be just as devastating? I don't think so. The historical painting is just a painting. It's can well show past should history show very well. But there can be also other things to show the same things. Reason why is it doesn't make much difference. Okay, that's a good answer. Renee and Zoe, have you got a question? Go I have two questions just mentioned that a painting is just a painting, but a famous painting is made by a famous people, and it will cost maybe 3 billion pounds. So would you bear to to save a cat rather than saving a famous painter? Well, I've said that in my speech. Well, money can buy things that physically like pencils, pens, laptops, but they cannot buy frienship or they cannot buy happiness. Having a cat around you can make you feel happy and it can be your friend play with you when you are bored like that. But if you have money, you could buy many other cats. So why don't you just choose a famous painting and have much money and then you could buy cats? Having to save a cat is saving a life, but if you choose to save a painting rather than to save a life, the cat first cannot find a way to live in that fire. Also saving after saving a painting, like you said, we can be rich, but it we cannot change the fact that one cat is dead. You need so we're gonna have to stop stop to run out, dive and run out dive and Zoe, fantastic questions. Yeah I am so pleased to see that we're bringing in these questions for from our teammates here. That's amazing. Well then okay, winners that have convinced me today I was on the fence. I thought maybe there's two arguments to this. Maybe I am a bit with the other team, but I've got to say Renee, Cherry and George, you have convinced me today that we should save the catat life is more valuable than the painting as Weland George Weland jererry Weland Renee, we're going to save the cat guys. Zoe, I know you are also for the cat saving as well. Well done. Each and every one of you have I say every single week is incredible. You are making so many different choices here. You are debating beautifully. So we will also have a motion that will be a Short Debate, but we're gonna na be looking at children should be allowed to get a tattoo. Very good debate. Cherry, thank you so much for joining us today. It was an absolute pleasure to have you with us. You've done an amazing job. So thank you so much. It's very scary coming into a class, but we've absolutely loved having you here. Yeah. So thank you so much. You can have ps, happy scribbling. Thank you, George. Thank you. Vinet, thank you, Chloe. Thank you, Zoe. Thank you, Mason. You are amazing. Goodbye, goodbye, goobye, goodbye, goodbye. I think itget rid another here. Hey, enjoy.
