Hello. How are you? And good good. Oh, we've done some homework. You had to write a formal greeting and an informal greeting. Yes. Eyebrow, what? What's wrong, Jack? What happened to you? Some? Are you okay? Sorry, so you hit other, you hit other people, you say something important, just like what's wrong, say something important with like this. Hey, what was wrong? Just like other people get hurt, you just Yeah, I say, I say what you mean, Yeah. Okay, good. Thank you for doing that homework. So today we're going to do a little bit of a test just to check the topics that we've been looking at together, to check how we're getting on with those. It's not a a serious test. Like it's not like a test or an exam, something that you do at school, you know where you might get like a grade or something or remark or whatever. It's not like that. It's just for me to see which parts we are you know happy with and which parts we need to maybe go over again before we move on. I've just realized that I actually haven't got the file in here. Let's go to another app, okay? It's just loading up. Hopefully it won't take too long. Can get a picture of the first one whwe wait. So these are the topics that we have looked at together. So it's only the topics that we've done together. There shouldn't be anything new. Yeah, it's only the stuff that we've already done together. So sentence. So we started off with phrases and clauses, didn't we? I wonder if I can get a clearer picture of this because that's quite blurry, isn't it asee? That's even more blurry. So phrases and clauses. So you have a little reminder here adden first. So remember, a clause is a part of a sentence that has a subject and a verb. So in the sentence, William plays golf at the weekend, William is the subject and plays is the verb. So that's William plays golf. That is a clause because it has the verb. Clauses and sentences are built up of groups of words called phrases. A phrase either doesn't have a verb or doesn't have a subject, and some might have neither. So these are phrases at the back two tor teachers chewing loudly. You know they don't have both a subject and a verb. That's why they can't count as a clause. So I'm going to put these on the board so can make them nice and big. And we're just going to do each part, the mmarsection, and then we will move on and I'll take some notes as we go. So first, so I'm going to try not to help you aand remember, because it is kind of a test. So I want you to have a go at your own first before I help you. So it says pick the groups of words. Below that are phrases. You see one time what this phrases is. I will put this on the board for you. So you can choose more than one option. Yeah it says tithe groups of words that are phrases. Circle the groups that are clauses and underline the phrases. So for this one, you need to either circle or underline every single one. This one you need to tip all the phrases. What about the other three? These ones down here? So I'm a bit confused though. Adden, can you can you please use the pen and not the highlighter? And then can you do what it says? Can you either circle or underline? Cause I can't tell the difference between these ones. They all look the same to me, just like looks like you've you've highlighted them all. Yeah. So either like this or like that. Yeah. What about the other three? Aiden, these three down here is three more. Can you see them? Yeah so Aiden, you either have to you have to either circle them. It says circle the ones that are clauses and underline the phrases. So you have to do something for each of these. Okay, right. I don't think we're that confident with this. Are we do have have you done a lot of guessing for this one, Aiden, were you not quite sure? What's lots of. So if. You see here look like this is a phrase. This one is a clause. Sam took it as a clause. It is tricky. Has that got a subject and a verb? Yeah Yeah so that is actually a clause. That's not a phrase. He knows rob, that's got a subject and a verb. So that's a clause as well. Not a phrase. This one correct and this one correct. So you have picked some of them, but we also have tiks some that are clauses. So same here. This is a clause. This is a clause. But this one should be a phrase. This one should be a phrase, this one is a clause and this one is a phrase. So again, we have got some right, but some of them we've got wrong as well. So I think we probably need to go over this again at some point. We will have a go at the rest of the tasks though, just to see maybe we're just getting our brain warmed up. Aiden, I'm just trying to screenshot this. Thank you. And I put up the board so it's much bigger for you. Hang on, what I'm going to do is make this bit bigger. Okay, so number three says write a clause in each gap to complete the sentence. So remember a clause is like this one, Aiden William plays golf. It has a subject and a verb. So it says during the competition, then you need to add something on there that's got a subject and a verb. This complimeans Oh, a competition is like you know like maybe like a race could be a competition, you know, a running race. A competition is where lots of people are against each other. And at the end there will be a winner. It could be a running competition, a swimming competition. It could be a singing competition, a dancing competition. It's just like people against each other, you know, and somebody will win at the end, but we don't know what competition it is. So you can decide that in your sentence here. I think we can do text. Yeah, I think text is a good idea. You kind of go to a bathroom? Yes, of course. Music. We're in the competition. Jack run very fast at the front. Okay. So we've got well done. You've used subject verb. Just make sure aiin its Jack runs or actually it would be ran because it would be past tense. Jack ran very fast at the front. Yeah, but that's good. That would be a clause. Well done. And I've take a yoga too. So sorry, what did you say? I've got, I take a yogurt tube. Oh, very nice. You can eat that. That's okay. You can, you can, you can have it. It's fine. I'm having a cup of tea. What is creamy? What is crecreamy? This word. Yeah it's called it's Q Q. So a queue is like you know say for example, there's a shop here and there's lots of people in line wanting to go to the shop. This is what we call a queue. Yeah you have to wait in the queue before you can get to the front. That makes that a line. Yeah, like a line, a line. Yeah. It's just a word that we use for a line. Waiting in the queue watching. Mum was watching phone stand at the middle. Mum was watching her phone standing in the middle. You mean like she was on her phone whst in the queue? Yeah Yeah Yeah so mum m was watching her phone standing in the middle and Yeah Yeah. Okay, so good again, that is a clause. Well done. Just a little bit grammar corrections needed. Okay, next one, you've been given some words and you need to use them in phrases. So remember, phrases are like this. They will either have a verb but no subject or they will have a subject but no verb. The easiest way to do it, adden, is do something like this, do like two adjectives before the word, and then that will create a phrase, but no, no verb in it. Okay, good. So beautiful spelt like this beautiful. Okay, well done. Good. Okay, now we have a reminder on main and subordinate clauses. So if you remember Aiden, a main clause is what we call like an independent clause. It makes sense all on its own. Yeah but a subordinate clause is giving extra information to the good good. Yeah it doesn't make sense on its own, does it? So it needs to be with a main clause. So here we have Jenny read a book, although she didn't like reading. So Jenny read a book that is a main clause, but although she didn't like reading is a subordinate clause. It wouldn't make sense on its own. So here for me, Adrian, you have loads of sentences. I need you to underline just the subordinate clause part of the sentence. Okay. You're really close, Aiden. There's just a couple more words in that clause that you've missed. So remember, it will start with a conjunction, subordinate conjunction. Can you remember which word in here is the conjunction? Larry lararither a name, it's a little bit different to that. Your. Grass skirno, no, no, it's it's part of this bit, isn't it? So it's going to be in this part of the sentence. So have a thing this, where would the main clause be? Where would the main clause end? I found out about garred's secret because Larry mentioned it to me. Secreso, the main clause will end secret, so where does the subordinate clause start? About square secret. No, no, no. So, Aiden, this is the main clause I found out about Garre's secret. That's the bit that makes sense on its own. So where must the subordinate clause start? Because Larry menit to yes, because Larry mentioned it to me. So remember, you'll always have a sentence that makes sense on its own. And the rest of it will be the subordinate clause. It could come at the start. It could be in the middle. Yeah, it's not always gonna to be at the end like this. Okay, you have a go at the next weekthen for me. Good. So do you think that bit doesn't make sense on its own? We unpack the car. What about this part? Do we arrive? Does that bit make sense on its own? So it's actually the other way around, Aiden. It should be this part is the subordinate. This is the main clause. We unpack the car. That makes sense on its own after we arrived. That doesn't quite make sense. That's expert information, isn't it? Ok. That the older sentence makes sense, so my sister usually covers her ears while I prplaying the piano. Yeah. So can you remember those subordinate conjunctions we talked about, if you can remember those, that really helps you to find the subordinate clause? It must make sense with its own. So these are the subordinate conjunctions, Aiden. So they will start the subordinate clause. So if you have a look here, look, although although the cause ars the cause until until after, after. So can you see the conjunction that's used in this sentence? Yes, which one? After no no in this sentence. While while. So the subordinate conjunction is while and that starts the subordinate clause. So where's the subordinate clause going to be? So Aiden, the subordinate clause starts at the subordinate conjunction. You've told me the conjunction is wild. So where's the subordinate clause going to be? My. So Aden is here. Look, while I practice playing the piano, it starts at the conjunction. So it's not at the end. Yeah, this book can you if you were to read just this, Aiden, while I practice playing the piano, that doesn't quite make sense on its own, does it? Because it's while well, while what but this bit, my sister usually covers her ears. That does make sense on its own. So that's the main clause. Yeah. Remember to always read them and think which bit makes sense on its own. This one? Good. What about the last one? There we go. Yeah, good. Okay. For this one, I want you to highlight the sentences in the color to show what type of sentence it is, either a phrase, a main clause or a subordinate clause. Okay, so it should be. So remember, Aiden, a phrase does not have a subject and a verb. This is a subject and this is a verb. So that's going to be a main clause as soon as possible. Subordinate clause. Why? Or she swims. This should be a subordinate clause. Until the lights went out. That should be a subordinate clause. Moving swiftly. This does not have a subject. It does have a verb. That should be a phrase. The penguins wage that's got a subject and a verb. So that should be a main clause. We need to do some work on finding subjects and verbs, I think, and you know different types of sentences still, don't we? So I think we're still not completely confident with that. Okay. Okay, now we have simple compound and complex sentences. Why don't you read what it says? I think that might help you to remember. We are friends. Aiden reads the whole yellow box for me. Yellow, I want you to read all of this. Okay, a single sentence has one main clawe are friends. A compound sentence has two more main joins with a conjunmain conjunection main. He played violviolin. And I played the guitar. A complex sentence has a main and one or more separclauses. After we have finished, we can get an ice cream. Subcourse main class. Okay. So hopefully that's helped to remind you of the difference between these sentence types. Yeah. So same again, can you highlight for me simple sentence? Compound sentence. Complex sentence. Okay. I think we might have got the compound and complex mixed up because this is compound, this is compound, this is complex. This is simple. Can you Yeah because can you see look, it says a compound sentence has two main flaws as joined by a conjunction. So here we've got I enjoy swimming. Ted prefers running conjunction. We can watch a film, we can go for a walk conjunction. And this the complex one has is starting with that. I just see the wrong thing. I just may mix complex and compound. Yeah, I think you mix them up. Didn't you think you got them the wrong way around? Yeah Yeah, okay. Okay, so see if you can have a go at this and try not to get them mixed up this time. I'm actually just going to get you to do it like this. So write an example of a simple sentence, a compound sentence and a complex sentence. You look beautiful. E A. What? Beautiful. Okay. So use these examples to help you. Yeah, obviously don't copy it, but you can use them to help you, can't you? It was beautiful. Okay, good. So these are definitely simple compound complex. That's really good. Just some grammar corrections again. So it would be the rainbow is beautiful. I am eating dinner. After lunch, we can have 20 minutes video game time. Yeah. So a few corrections, but we have used the right sentence types. That's good. Okay. Right, we will look at some conjunctions now as well. So remember, we've only got a few minutes left. We'll just do one of these tasks and then we'll just stop there. Can you read the yellow box for me again, Aiden? Projection are words of uses that stroin two sentence or two parts of sentence. They help your writing to go smoother. I doesn't like Joe did. I gave it to her. This doesn't flow very well. I didn't like but jodid, so I'd give it to her. He drives a van and he owns a boat. Did you read the parts that tell you about the conjunctions? That's the bits that you need to know. Ordinary junction can join two main Clain a compound sentence. He dries then, and he owns a boat. And it's a corordination conjection. Good. Okay. So let's just have a go at one of these tasks. So find and underline the coordinating conjunctions. A good and or but so Yeah, well done. That's good, right? Let me just write that. I think we'll finish the rest of this next lesson, homework. Just going to give you a little riclean task, I think, to do for homework just to have a go. I go out now. Not yet. Okay, so next next week, adwhen, I see you. We still need to do the rest of this. We need to finish the conjunctions and do the formal and informal language parts. So hopefully we can finish that next lesson. Yeah, I'm just going to give you a bit of a writing task. Maybe you might want to you know go over your notes that you've written or something you know for the formal and informal language maybe, or something that might help you to remember before our next lesson. Right soon as we work so hard today, we can continue watching that video. More than me. 嗯。Okay, thank you, Aden. Good work today. See you next week. Bye.
